I got a phonecall this morning from a mate who has picked up somebodies long abandoned Honda XL500s powered 1983 Husky basketcase. The bike apparently started life as a 1983 XC250. My mate was wondering if this conversion has been done before and if so, if anybody has any tips or photos of the conversion they'd like to pass on or share?

Pardon my stupidity, but weren't the early Curtis bikes essentially Husky's with Honda engines?

A friend of mine put a XL500 motor into an early Husky frame about 15 years ago. I seem to remember that the frame was a '77 125. The work involved a lot of squeezing and a few cuts with the red knife.
I think the bike is still at Parkes and have always meant to chase it up. I never saw it going but I was told it was a monster in all but a straight line!
I'll have to follow that one up.

I think I bought the forks, shocks, wheels and seat from the Parkes bike. They were on ebay a couple of months ago and came from Parkes. The description said it was a CR125 Husky that had a four stroke conversion. The forks have the steering head section of the frame attached, cut just behind it, so the frame would be scrap.
Cheers,

Yeah,it was a CR125 Husky with an XL then an XR 500 motor in it,the bloke also made it into a trike and then it was sold and stripped out. I think a mate of mine still has the trike rear end and Husky rear frame.

There's been a lot of Honda engines fitted to everything from the old MJ frames right up to the bike you guys are tlking about. This is a white framed '83 model which I've been told has a smaller frame cradle.

I have a spare Husky MK frame, swing arm and steering head if anyone wants it for a project.
