HI
i have to replace the crank seals in my dt360a.the stock ones are 10mm deep and off the shelf bearing shop ones are 7mm deep.will these work or should i use gen yamaha if i can get them.
also the best way of doing the job.ie in the bike or motor on the bench.

Been there J and I remember buying the 10mm Cheap of the shelf from local bearing shop. (NSK Brand ) I already had engine on bench. Cheers Tim

so the bearing shop ones are ok but must be 10mm not 7mm.

CAN ONLY GET 7MM has any one used these on there bikes.can buy ome 68.20 and 48.35.off the shelf 7mm are about 8.00 each.

i got sick of you throwing dirt in my face so i thought i would have a little rest and through dirt in my own face.plug was still black and wet also the crankcase oil level was not on the dip stick any more.

Myself I would try it, Probably get shouted down but I believe the 7mm ones will have equal sealing qualities. Tim (I did those seals about 12 years ago but surprised that they appear NLA)

a few questions.
1. as a comparison how much are OEM 10mm width seals ?
2. can you replace them if needed again without splitting cases ?
if the answer to one is not much in price then i would go the OEM (piece of mind)
if answer to 2 is no then go oem (why take a risk for $20-30 and go through the same excercise again).

In fact, the thinner seal will almost certainly run on a different part of the sleeve, away from the groove that has probably worn into the sleeve by now...
The possible issue isn't the width of the seals (genuine vs aftermarket), its the design. The genuine ones are 'two-way' seals, with two sealing rings, back-to-back.
In theory, this is important to ensure the seal works both ways (gear oil out of engine and fuel out of gearbox), but in reality, I've never seen or heard of it being a problem.

Jim, Speed and sport (USA) have one crank seal 93103-38086-00 (38mm-62mm-10mm) for $us42.75
Ask your local yamaha shop to do a stock seach which will let you know if any of the seals are in any of the other yamaha shops in australia.

Failing that there are after market seal makers and most bike shops have there books/listings and other brand bikes my use the same seal.

the seals are 68.20 and 48.35 nos in australia the aftremarket ones are about 8.00 each and are double liped.crankcases dont have to be split.looks like an easy job to do.i have checked in the usa and 43.00 and 15.00 for the same as here plus about 9.00 postage.

wherent they the same seals on all the 74 mx models as well, should be something going around specially in Resto circles
