Title: In need of new project/bike
Post by: Slakewell on April 19, 2015, 04:57:05 pm
I'm leaning towards something Husky/ would buy a water cooled twin shock 400 in a heart beat.

Whats in the shed you need to move on?

'84 CR250 Husky here in Bendigo, listed on Gumtree. I did some work on it about 6 years ago, hasn't been ridden much since. I've had a look, it's not too bad but needs the usual.

im loving the 84 510..a real scary monster! has been sweet to run and ride and starts pretty easily and sounds unreal. the 84 wr 400 feels like a 125 when you step down!

hey 80-85..what igntion are you running ??.. I have a 83 which has the right way round SEM..it also has a flat slide Mic... I have only just "finished" it off. so only have tried to start it a couple of times... not the easist thing to get going.. only really get one kick at it and then have to do the TDC thing all over again..I have had it running .. but it isn't easy.. I had a 610 many years ago .. and the trick was absolutley no throttle.. but that was also for the pumper carb..
 Any tips..??

no idea, haven't even had a look in there? whatever the last guy to touch it is where it is? the cover has three allen screws on the outside.

my deloorto is sh#$gged and i need a new carb. what size mic is it your running? sounds like your running rich if you have to clear it each time. maybe float is too high?

The tree allen screws on the outside is the "inside out" ignition.. so yours is a 1984.. mine is a 83 with  a "normal" SEM..when I try to kick start the bike .. ( it has a new piston/ bore  and guides / valves) it only turns over  about 1 cycle .. if you try and continue and kick ..it is already back on the comp stroke.. and so .. the kickstarter "locks" on compression.. I have no idea what is inside the flat slide Mic.. I did have it apart.. but don't know the numbers.. when it does run..it is very clean..tho the (new) plug is quite black when I took it out to check spark..tells me lots of fuel is going thru when it is running..

decompression lever is king on these monsters. I was amazed at the lack of rotation on the 4 banger when I first started farting about with it. its very rich so it starts well but after the 400 which is an easy sitting on it kick starter, the 4 banger just dismays you after a your best leap on the kicker and give it every thing ......and it goes half a turn and stops on comp!!!
