Beautiful, unbelieveable. And the NOS bits.

Gee, if that doesn't get $10,000us I'll be most surprised.

That is one pretty motorcycle; and I still have another seven days in which to win Lotto. C'Maaaarn Lotto!!
I don't think I ever saw an orange MXer back in the day, but now with the Harleys and the Can Ams they're in plague proportions. ;)

Funnily enough I still relate orange with the 70s here in OZ.
The colours orange and 'mission brown' (do all the Aussies remember mission brown?) were everywhere. I still have Mum's old swivel chair (orange...) from back then.

Here's the eBay bike and another from CD5. Personally I prefer the orange side covers.

Yerp Tim, Aermacchi then Cagiva bought Aermacchi from the AMF and made street bikes with very similar engines , engines were spose to be not bad  by all reports. bikes wernt a bad package just a shit management team

I've been watching this Harley and if it is a brand new bike then why does he list all the NOS parts he's put into it? That's my bike at CD5 with the orange sidecovers. I thought they'd look better painted orange rather than black.

That's a great offer Rusty... let me think about it for a while.

John...How many Harley MXers are in OZ to your knowledge? I spoke to a bloke with a similar Harley to yours at CD1 and he reckons it was the only one in the country. I wonder where that bike is now? I can't remember his name but he told me he had an XR750 flat tracker as well. He drove a black 454 Chevy C10 pickup which I reckon was almost as cool as the bike.

Firko i think there are 2 Harley MXers in OZ. Elvis in Vic apparently has one, i've never seen it but a few people have told me about it. It probably was the only one at the time of CD1, i got mine about 4 or 5yrs ago.

I rode it up and down the street but not on a motocross track. Didn't want to risk denting or scratching the tank with my knee braces. I bought a 2nd hand spare tank for it so i can take it to a track one day.

You were quiet about the Harley John! What other little gems do you have tucked away up there?
Title: Re: NOS Harley
Post by: Maico31 on July 21, 2008, 02:02:10 pm
Yeah i have been pretty quiet about the Harley Firko, mainly because it spends it's life locked in a storage shed cos i've run out of room at home. The only other not so common bikes i have are a pair of RH250's, a '74 and a '75, and a pretty tidy original 'barn find' square barrel Maico 250 and the '81 250 Beta i got on ebay a couple of years ago.

Myself and TM Bill along with a couple of other forum members got to talking about their favourite/coolest bike at CD 5 and I have to say I didnt hesitate in puting my vote forward on your Harley. I always thought they looked cool in the magazines but had never seen one in real life until I saw yours John. My opinion, The coolest bike there, just ask the other guys we were with.

Thanks DJ. I was a fan of the Harleys when Rex Staten and Marty Tripes raced them in the factory team in the 70's and thought it would be so cool to own one and eventually i got one.

Same bloke has an even older Harley MXer listed on US eBay.
Item number: 220258605647.

And he recently sold another Harley MX250, not as good as this one, for $9,488.

How cool is that little Harley 100? Wouldn't it be great if someone imported one for our proposed 100 class?
I had a great opportunity to buy a Harley 250MX not so different to Johns gem about five years ago. I bought a basketcase Triumph Metisse instead and regret that decision every time I look at a photo of one of those orange beauties. I copped shitloads from the Kevlar mates when we saw Johns beauty at CD5. I'll be much more diligent next time an opportunity like that comes along. I've currently got my US based contacts searching out for a Harley 250 for me.

C'mon Firko, we don't need any more in the country.. It'll detract from mine.

Just don't park them all together - and certainly not alongside the Can-Ams. Too much orange will do things to your head!

I see the bike has now been removed from eBay.
I reckon that's a bit rude to take bids from so many people then halfway though just pull it from sale.
Obviously got a good offer on it, but I reckon there should be a rule that once you have bids, it can't be removed.
I feel better now.............  :D

The guy with the black Chev 454 ute with the Harley MX's is Darren  "ELVIS" Mayberry. He lives not far from me and from memory i am pretty sure he has a complete one and one in bits.  I drool like a teethin baby walkin into his shed.. Seein Jimmy Weinart's KX380 that Trevor Williams rode in OZ (Correct me if i am wrong on that.. the memory was strained a little to remember the details).. His Yamaha's.. His Maico's .. His original factory Mugen.. and the other 4000 bikes and cars he has crammed in his grouse shed! And he is a ripper bloke too..  8)

Now that you mention it it was Darren I spoke to at CD1 or 2. Magoo told me he's done the Elvis Shed Tour and that it is indeed amazing with everything from classic Caddys to OW Yamahas (and obviously orange Harleys). The Harley MX250 scene seems to be a bit overcrowded now so perhaps I'll look for something else :-\. Maybe an early ATK, I always liked the look of them. It'll be a shitload cheaper and help me gain a little pre 90 cred!

I have never see an ATK before.. They look different huh. Bit KTM'ish.  Is there any in Australia? Would be grouse to have one! I like the pre 90 class down here in VIC, its awsome to see the big bore 500's zippin around. Especially the 88  KX500 of Simon Healy's. Does the ATK run a Rotax engine, i just got a flashback of something i have read..

This bike is listed on the Vintage Flat Track site http://www.vft.org/vftforsale2.html (http://www.vft.org/vftforsale2.html). Considering how rare and expensive these beauties are becoming, this is ground floor money.

i'm amazed at the "Still buy seat new" considering it was a one model only or do they share parts with an "Ancillotti"  Rigatoni or whatever they are.

There's a nice little piece in my old Readers Rides section of the current ADB on Maico31 and his Harley. Cool.
Now that both of the "problems" are gone at ADB we might have a slim hope of getting a bit of vintage back in there.

You mean it might be worth buying ADB again?

Love those old Harleys, dunno why. Maybe just because they were something from out of left field? A bit like the Canondales or whatever they were a few years back, it's a shame they didn't get those right and sell a swag of em.

ATK bought out Cannondale and sorted the bugs out of them. And sell swag loads of them. A few made it out to here and there was one for sale on ebay a month or two ago.
