Title: XR80 Crank timing gear position to keyway.
Post by: ELC hunter on April 03, 2015, 08:12:55 am
Does the timing gear for the crankshaft line up with the centre of 1 tooth or centre between 2 teeth to the key way. Even factory instructions are unclear. ELC hunter

Most of the Honda's that I have seen line up with the tooth. Can't say I have seen a crank from an XR80 though.

The tooth, the one on the cam sprocket with the etched circle under it.    Can't see it, try taking the sprocket off and turning it around ;)

Still if your not 100% happy after connecting all up, very slowly turn engine over to access if all is OK. Don't thump down on the kick start please. Have had to repair Little XR's assembled by drongos that have been out a tooth and they will run. Poorly.

The cam sprocket no problems ,but crankshaft gear is heat /shrinked on . just wanting to confirm the correct position of gear it has been replaced before and bike has run very  poorly since. Trying to eliminate one at a time. ELC hunter.

ELC, the XR80 camshaft drive crank sprocket is set up with one tooth centered on the woodruff key.

Cheers
