just bought dr500 for resto .anyone know much about them good and bad points.thanks don.

Don ....Gday if your going to mx it.
They are a heavy bike to peddle around at speed. Having said that the motors are bloody bullet proof and develop a lot of low down grunt.
Tony on this forum has had one for around 4 years - plus there is a Kiwi in NZ .

thanks ,bud .

As Stew said ,never made me push it back to pits.

Good. Although I never thought it could be. I have a good friend that race a DR in Southern California.
Ported head, cam, hi compression piston , Black Ops Moto coi, 37 Keihen pumper,Fox Airs, 43mm RM forks . No problem ripping holeshots and finishing in front or winning. In 1982 I would never think a DR500 would be holeshottimg Maico 490s and yz490s.
I had a 78 DR370 back in the day. Most fun bike I have ever ridden

They weren't DR370s they were SP370s
-
USA had DR370. Maybe Maxpower lives in USA?
-
also was sp500 available.
-
Yeah only in USA/Can and it was pretty much the same as AU/Euro DR500S
-
Leith ... Dr frames are more MX ( less tags etc ) than Sp frames

There were DR 370 available in 1978 as well as SP

When i said 'yeah only in USA/Can i was referring to SP500.
I am comparing USA SP500 and Australian/Euro DR500S. The frame on those are the same as the SP500 is just the same as DR500S except for minor things like headlight. We had the TS-ER type headlight but the SP500 had a plain round headlight like on a road bike. I think you thought i ment USA DR500, if so then yes i would agree those are different.

yes ... I was referring to US models ;D
