I have a oil cooler of a xr 400 or 250 the type that goes around the head steam it came of my 1990 xr 600 can these be made to fit on a 83/84 xr 350 have seen them on 85 xrs and they are putting them on 08 husky 510 any one done this sort of mod to the xr 350 and if so what are the pros and cons any info on this would be great thanks

I have heard of the first XR250 coolers being grafted, you would have to just see if you can make the fittings fit or buy line.

Ive fitted a oil cooler to a (dry sump) in the past, just got fittings made to insert it into the return line.
Don't think it would be as easy on a wet sump 4t.

There was an article in an old trail and track mag on doing this to the mid 80's models. I dont know the issue number though. You just gotta find the right points to tap into the cases for oil lines. Desert racers used to do it on wet sump 250 Motosports, the 350's and even XR75's all the time and fit Lockhart Harley oil coolers.
Pros - cools the oil
Cons - more things to break/come loose/more weight added

on wet sump motors with an external oil feed for cam/rocker arms can be cut and the xr400 oilcooler piped/hosed in series will do the job and drop alot of heat. i had a xs1100 oilcooler i found at the tip on a tt500 then a xr600 single carb and there worth the time making mounts to fit it and worked great as a hand warmer on cold mornings ;) 8)

Hi
Just to save a bit of time googling, do you have a link for that thread? Currently I have a spare oil cooler from a 95' XR250R and have been thinking of fitting it to 1 of my earlier bikes so this is very interesting.
Cheers Troy
