Title: Side Pull throttle for KLX250B
Post by: PBMGold on March 04, 2015, 04:03:29 pm
Want to buy a side pull throttle like a Magura or Gunnar Gasser to fit my 1981 KLX250. Originally the carb had a twin cable setup but a previous owner removed the push cable and so there is only one cable from the carb. The return when releasing the throttle works well so should be easy to just leave it as a single cable fit. Just not sure of which throttle would be best but also what turn ratio, eg 1/4 turn or 1/2 turn throttle would be best for this bike. Normal use is for VMX with maybe some Vinduro. Keep in mind the massive power output of this bike means it is generally ridden no throttle or full throttle with little in between. It's like having permanent turbo lag. All comments, including deragatory ones, welcome.

1/4 turn is standard. A genuine Gasser would be perfect. Just don't buy the Chinese copy. They are bloody dangerous. Genuine will have "Made in Sweden" cast into it and a silver top cover.
I have looked at fitting a standard Mikuni on mine as the original is getting worn. But I am tempted to go with a Lectron. They have worked wonders on my two stroke Husky 390's.

Thanks Grouty. I've read a lot of warnings about the clone Gassers. I think VMX Unlimited may have a genuine one in stock so I'll check that out. Thanks for your help.

Never had an issue with the Gasser copies, just have a good look & check  the fit, tweak if you have to. If you want the best by a Domino, about $100.
