Check this out:

Jim found it, and told me about it, and then did a heap of running around for me to get it.
It cost me $2300, which I think is probably too much*, but I just don't care. :)
It was basically part of a deceased estate. I didn't know the previous owner (or even his name), but I imagine that at least a few of the longer-term VMXers will know the bike and/or owner.
Most things seem OK so far. Main drama is the rusty forks and leaky shocks, but there are many little bonuses - stuff like the correct throttle and levers, and new tyres. Seems to be very little in the way of bodgy bits or dodgy bolts and stuff.
If the motor checks out OK, it'll temporarily get some 34mm forks and go Crawford River (and the DT175 will stay at home).
Longer term, it'll become a garage queen and probably get ridden sparingly at future Classic Dirts. The irony is that my unpretentious DT125 racer is now a better race bike than any stock-ish YZ.... And I don't see the point in forking out lots of money for a real YZ just to butcher it.
And, while I doubt that anyone else cares, I now own a YZ125A, C, D, E, F, G and MX125A. If I can an AT1MX and a MX125C, then I'll have the full set...
*Its the second most expensive bike I've ever purchased. Hell, I bought a newish, registered 2-stroke open class Enduro bike for less - and its in better condition than the YZ!

Nathan, the YZ125 A was previously owned by a good friend by the name if Greg Sweikert. Greg was an original '88 Vintage racer who unfortunately died of prostate cancer in 2001. He was a terrific bloke with a genuine love of old bikes ranging from the YZ125 to his B50 MX and Hagon Jap slider and plenty more.
Below is a shot of Greg on the B50 at Clarence, circa 1998.

Congrats Nathan, looks bloody good to me, and Im sure the previous owner (Greg Sweikert RIP) well be happy to know that the bike is in good hands and will be ridden and shown.

And the update is that it went pretty well up at the Crawford River Classic. :)
Leaky suspension is not good suspension, and I had a bit of an issue with it not revving out on Saturday, but other than that, it went great.
On a big open grasstrack, the little 125 was always going to struggle, but it corners as well as something that low and light should, and the front brake really suprised me - its very good, despite the tiny dimensions.

Hey nathan, looks good to me a bit better than the one i got off ebay couple weeks back for $2000, still considering what to do about rebuild etc as the spare frame is the one that suits the motor and if i swap it over it will match, I would have paid $2300 any day of the week for your bike...oldyzman

Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
gotta luv the Yzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!

Giday
nathan do you want to sell the A or does oldyzman want to part with a yzA or parts to build one? :o ;D :)
-
The 125 bug's bitten you hard hasn't it DG? :D
OYZM bought the 1.5 125As on Ebay a month or two back. I've got my hand up for anything that's "left over" once he's sorted himself out.
Mine isn't for sale. ;)
