Dandenong MCC & Scooter News have announced a Pre 90 Vinduro Series. There'll be four rounds apparently, with first event on Feb 21 at Three Bridges.
Tex
-
So that's what's happened to 3bridges then. Bit disappointing as attended all of them and supported the club. O well no worries
-
Interesting.
The handicap system sounds like a good idea, it will do away with 10 thousand classes.
$150.00 entry will make it hard as well as not having much time to get ready for it, I hope enough support it so I can maybe give some of the other events a go.
-
Luffy this is completely separate from the three bridges vinduro run by oakleigh club, it's on the same land though. Geoff they are trying to organize a non competitive class to lower entry costs for first timers or those without ma licenses etc. I agree $150 is a tad bullspit for a couple of hours riding and doesn't do the best to entice newcomers.
-
Is it for up to pre 90 bikes only or are there more classes with
later bikes as well on the Day.
The Stig = George
-
Sunday is moderns, vets and seniors A B C usual classes.
-
I think the option of one day DMCC membership is a good thing as it gives casual punters an easy way in.
This property is used by various clubs, so this event doesn't preclude Oakleigh MCC running their non competitive vinduro there some time.
I look forward to reading a report & seeing some pics of the Feb 21 event as I cannot make it there myself.

$150 is a lot! At least double what I've seen for other club days.
Certainly puts a wet blanket on my enthusiasm.

I guess if you are a DMCC member & have a yearly comp licence it wouldn't be that much. I thought it sounded reasonable but I haven't ridden a comp event for a few years now so maybe I'm out of touch.

Thanks Tex for starting this thread! We have a Facebook page event set up now ('friend' Steven Davis to join) but here is the full competition info, and entries can be done on the www.dmcc.com.au website (must pre-enter, but can pay on the day)
Pre90 Vintage Off Road Event, with handicap scoring.
As part of the DMCC’s 2015 Off-Road champs the club will be running the first of four Pre90 Vinduros, sponsored by Scooter News. These vinduros will be open to all Pre90 bikes – so you can ride your pre90 bike on the Saturday and your modern bike on the Sunday. You don’t have to be a gun rider to be in the points in this vintage series – the older you are and the older the bike, the bigger your handicap will be. Everyone will have a good chance. And there is a non-competitive rally class too (which is cheaper to enter).
The first round is at Three Bridges (Sanders Apple Orchard) on Saturday 21st February starting mid afternoon, and followed by the modern bikes on Sunday 22nd February. Here’s some details:
Competition Rules for the 2015 DMCC Scooter News Vintage Off Road Series championships
• Entries must be received by the closing date before the round. See www.dmcc.com.au for details. No need to pre-pay but you must pre-enter
• NO ENTRIES WILL BE RECEIVED ON THE DAY however you can pay the entry fee on the day
• Riders will be required to be a full DMCC member at $100.00 for 12 months OR purchase a day membership for $25.00. You must hold a MA race licence ($295.00) OR purchase a one day licence on the day ($60.00). Rally class can pay for a one day Rec licence ($25) and one day membership ($25)
• Riders will also be required to have a transponder (electronic timing device) - these can be hired for $20.00 on the day. Not applicable for rally class
• Entry fee will be $45.00 (so $45 if you ride the vinduro on Saturday and then $34 to ride in the modern club champs on Sunday as no need to pay the rider levy twice)
Sign-in at 3pm, with riders briefing at 3:30pm
• Bikes must be 1990 models or older, they must be stock or have aftermarket parts of that vintage
• Bike must be well silenced preferably with enduro mufflers on them as noise will be our biggest enemy. We will accept more modern mufflers on bikes if it keeps them quieter than stock.
• The tracks will be kept to a maximum of a 20 minute loop or shorter and the event will be run as a cross country as long as the weather permits.
• The tracks we will be using won’t be too gnarly and won’t have any extreme obstacles on the loop. Your average rider will be able to negotiate the tracks without too many problems.
• The series will be run on a handicap system (age of rider and age of bike) which may need to be tweaked as the year progresses. The older the bike and the older the rider, the better score you will have at the end of the race – so everyone will get a chance. All will be revealed on the day (so don’t get too focused on it, it’s vintage racing and vintage bikes).
• Unique trophies befitting the nature of the event will be presented after the last of the four rounds – dates of the future rounds will be released in due course with the last round set to be a ripper
• Even if you don’t want to race, enter the rally class, pay your entry fee and ride the track.
• Spectators will be free, and welcome
• Camping available
Please refer to the DMCC website www.dmcc.com.au for the online entry and 'friend' Steven Davis to join the facebook event page for more info. Also for more information contact: Glenn Capuano 0418 374 362

Luffy the Oakleigh MCC website says the vinduro will be run at three bridges later in the year
"Oakleigh Motorcycle Club’s Three Bridges Vinduro event in March is postponed until later in the year. We will let you know when a scheduled date is known."
Hope to see you on 21st Feb

Sorry I should have clarified, I came up with that price based on my circumstances...
Entry fee $45.00
One day club membership $ 25.00
Transponder hire $20.00
One event race licence $60.00
If your a regular racer with a yearly license and a transponder then it's a much better deal
Hey Viper, will this be a sprint format or something else?
-
Cross country Geoff...

Cross country Geoff...
Which means what these days?
Do we ride for a set number of hours or laps?
-
Event is for 1.5 hours and you ride past the timing (transponder) point and see how many laps you get and how long you go for.
Loops are going to be around 20 mins
If weather conditions are too hot/dusty it will be sprint
-
And..
there is a (cheaper) rally class - ride the same track but no transponder needed, no trophies either
$25 one day rec licence
$25 one day membership
$45 entry fee
-
$70 Bux if you have a rec/race licence already, for a day ride aint so bad :) Id go if I didnt have a stall at Ballarat swap.
When and where are the other rounds??
-
Hmm.... Timing is good, location is good, entry is entirely reasonable... Just got to see if real life will let it happen. :)
-
What are the transponders and where can you get them?

Anyone who wants more after a 1.5 hour competitive cross country, has my respect - and can front up again on Sunday....
Viper65, any restrictions on riding an old bike in Sunday?
-
Can anyone post some photos of Vic vinduro scooters in action, please?

When and where are the other rounds??
Curtis, the other rounds haven't been announced yet but they will be in Victoria and more than likely in the Gippsland area with the final round possibly being a final moto (in true 4-day style!) but no jumps... DON"T SAY JUMPS! Looking like a grass track moto. And if you have done the three previous rounds there could be a very subsidised entry fee.
This is something the DMCC is trying to get up and running, once we can get it up and running, and popular - who knows what may happen price wise, and event wise
Hope you can get to a couple of them
-
What are the transponders and where can you get them?
Hi
Transponders are like an 'e-tag' that fits to your bike with cable ties - the size of a match box, and you can hire them from the club on the day, $20 a day. They cost $300+ to purchase.
They time your individual performance which you can then view on-line and compare to other riders, lap charts, statistics etc etc Visit www.mylaps.com

Hi - you can come early on the Saturday and you can help set up and get to see the track that way - but you must be helping not just pre-riding. The event itself is 1.5 hours. Camping overnight and you can ride the moderns on Sunday on any type of bike - A,B,C Grade and Vets A, B, C (enter separately). Bike must not be noisy.
-
Tex's photos of the Scooters in action are a ripper - but I'll be on my 1988 KTM350GS - its second race since resto
-
If I wasn't busted, I'd be there. Maybe the next one.

It's gunna be a warm one! Especially as it starts in the hottest part of the day
-
Imagine how good the cold beer will taste 1 hour and 35 minutes after the start of the race.
I didn't hear Toby Price whinging about the 40+ degrees heat day after day for 10 hours straight in the Dakar this year - it will be a breeze for him tomorrow - we have 1:30mins of 30 degree heat in the shady trees!
I can't wait to get out there - and I'm 53 years old!
3pm sign in, Three Bridges (Vic), Saturday 21st Feb
See ya there!
-
Is it wrong I'm already thinking about the beer and the race hasn't started?! See y'all there
-
How did it go? Any tall tales or photos?

2nd round? Bummer I would have gone if I new about it. I had been waiting to hear about the other 3 rounds :(
-
Thanks Mark - great photos and good to see you out there in the thick of it! Young 18 year old Kyle Bernhard on my RM250D was being heavily pressured by Glenn Capuano on his KTM250GS before Dave Horne on his PE175 took up the chase. Only the 1974 CanAm didn't see the chequered flag. Results are calculated with handicap applied (riders age + bike age + time) so not sure who won yet!
The DMCC website www.dmcc.com.au will post up details of the next round (there are two more in this year's series) as they are running this vinduro series along with their modern off-road championships. We think the last of the four rounds will be tied in with the Thumpercross Challenge in September. We also give plenty of notice through the Scooter News newsletter so pm me your email address to get on the circulation list (it's free, comes out every Tues, covering mx, off-road and vintage events in Victoria)
