Title: the Bucket List
Post by: Hoony on July 16, 2008, 05:20:17 pm
I saw a movie recently "The Bucket List" with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. the basic plot is they are both told they have 6 + months to live and decide to do a Bucket List (things to do before you kick the bucket) it got me thinking about doing my own version of things i would like to do if i was in that situation. i will only put the Bike related stuff up here and suggest if anyone wants to put their thoughts in a post they do the same and keep it all Motorcycle related as well.

in no particular order.

things i have not done
Ride a 490 maico and exerience Hype or Legend for myself
ride a 1983 CR480RD
ride a KTM495
Ride the finke
Race at Conondale
ride a modern 450 MX bike on a loamy track
ride a long track bike at Bathurst showgrounds or similar 800m track
Take in A USA supercross event
Cross the simpson desert on a MX bike with no gear to carry

Things i would like to do again
ride a speedway solo one more time
ride a 500cc 2 stroke lightweight MX sidecar again
Ride Barrabool (maybe for a week with the Viper Boys and eat Pizza with beer every night)
go for a 3 day trail ride with my long term mates and camp out

What an awesome life I've had but nothing has come close to raising my 3 girls.

About to release my own car brand and on the bike side I would consider these Metisse 600's a feather in my hat if they succeed so theres not much else I need to achieve and theres not much I haven't done that I "always wanted to do".

Mind you I still want to live more than 6 months but tomorrow isn't promised to anybody so get out there and do it.

5 minutes that may change your thinking ...

Hoony only when you have raced a Bultaco will you experience heaven. Up untill now apart from a brief ride on a Montesa(I saw you!) I dont believe you have experienced Spains finest. You've had enough geisha girls so its time to man up and have a crack at some Tango action. Remember there's always a sponsored ride at any VCM round. Having said that she's sporting a Japanese carby and starts first time these days but thats not the point!!! Cheers J

Your on Jerry, I am up for a Bulty ride ! just gotta work out when, you can also have a ride on "Big Red" when you want as well.

i may have another tick off the bucket list soon as 3 weeks ago when i went on the 3 day trail ride i met a bloke who has a GSX1000 speedway sidecar and also a vincent powered one. he and i were in the Speedway Sidecar Riders Association together back in late 80's, I was riding solo at the time and didn't know him then. i dropped it on him for a swing and a ride. now i just got to keep in contact with him to make it happen.

Adrenaline City here i come.

One thing I can highly reccomend for anyone wanting a riding experience they'll never forget is a trip off road around Cambodia, Thailand or Vietnam.
After years of talking about it, my brother, sister, a mate and I spent 8 days riding through the mountains of Cambodia. The experience was absolutely amazing, we saw so much, experienced a great welcome form
locals, and for those on a tight budget the trip (including air fares, bike hire, food etc) was little over $3000.
One of the best parts was relaxing on the beaches for a few days afterwards going through how awesome it was.

What a fuc*ed piece of news Suds. It's pretty easy to say from where I sit but I guess the best plan is to pursue that bucket list with all of the enthusiasm you can muster. That'd have to include a trip to CD9 and/or the Nats next year plus wringing every bit of enjoyment out of that beautiful C&J as it and you can handle. Go for it. ;)
