After a recent horrifying experience I'm wondering how I might protect my frames from rusting out like this one.

Any ideas from the brains trust ?

Drill a couple of drain holes at the bottom of the gusset. Water is obviously getting traped in there and rusting it from the inside. A good coating of kill rust and pour some paint into the gusset if you can and give it a good coat.

I drilled a small hole at the lowest part of the frame ( bottom that is ) both sides to let water out .
I done this to a bike a few years back and half a cup of water came out when I drilled it .
But this is only to help the lower part of the frame rusting out

The rust will be at its worst where it has contact with the water and the air, in this case where it has rusted through completely will be where the water level was. If you can keep the water out it should be fine.

buy a Honda - better quality metal :D

I have tiny nail head sized grommet plugs to put in the frame drain holes on riding days, to stop forced ingestion of water, mud ,dust, slower competitors blood and guts etc . Remember to pop them out for drainage and fire a bit of water dispersant from a spray can up the hole after you have wash/ pressure washed ya steed.

Brilliant thanks guys. I might do combination of all of those things. Apart from Rosco's clever idea ::) :o ;D
I've already got 5 Hondas Ross. That includes the lawnmower and the whipper snipper :P
