There used to be some 495's getting around in Heaven
If you've got one sell it to a Heaven guy - it'd be good hear the sound of thunder again!

ok, mostly that the cases are ok and the cylinder has a few more rebores left - would usually do rod n rebore n all new bearings n clutch plates, no problem if it's got crappy gearset because have a few sets - but not against one that's in good nick already

I disagree... that would be one of ktm's worst bikes ever. heavy, terrible suspension - forks in particular and a peaky top end motor you have to rev the crap out of ...I rode one on a three day ride ktm ride in early 2000 and at one stage, I conned leisky to give me ride on his little 125 then I wouldn't stop to give it back. when he pinned me down all he would say about the 400 was "we've come along since that model"  I don't like them at all, a dr 400 or xr 400 was a much better bike imo. to clarify, it was a bog stock std bike with no real tweaking but then I always thought katos were good out of the box?

Are you sure? I have the original manual and clearly shows the MXC with the large tank. Not saying Im right though and would like to know.
Now Ive ridden the bike I like the feel of the big tank but would still love the smaller MX one.

Australian KTM were a bit hit or miss with Bert swapping stuff around. There were no rules. If you would like an 84 MX tank I have one for sale but it comes with a few other parts.
