Title: Storing an engine

I thinking of starting another project and a good engine has come up now, but it will probably sit around for about 12 months. 

Is there a best way to store an engine for this time frame and is there anything you should do to it while it being stored.

First off, remove the oil. All the internals will still have a film on them anyway and you lessen the risk of the old oil holding any moisture. Remove the spark plug and carby and block the inlet, exhaust and plug hole. Race tape is good. Also block any breather outlets. We don't want any air or moisture getting in. I store engines in plastic crates with lids to prevent dust etc. Cheap as chips at the bargain shops.

If it's a four banger set it at tdc so the value springs have a rest while its being stored.
Four stroke forever has covered it well.

moisture is the killer, if it was a twoie, I would put a bit of std engine oil down the plug hole and turn her over a bit to spread it about. it stays around a lot longer than two mix...
