i dont think theres enough room for the 79 air box and the 490 engine and carb so i might have to get a alloy box made too suit the space ive got,i dont really want to machine the barrell /inlet shorter to make room .its a tight squeeze  ill take it over to stackers and fit it all up and get a pipe made to suit then pull it all down and start from scratch should look ok when finished

			-
which  race class is it eligable in (do they have bitsa)

			-
Evo, Evo and....Evo. The class the bike runs in is decided by the newest major component. In this case it'd be the '81 engine. If it has an '82 engine, I think the bike'd have to go into pre '85 as the engine came from a linkaged bike. Fussy eh? If you had the original '79 400/440 engine in it you'd still have to run Evo as I think the old pre '80 class in Victoria is gone (or am I mistaken?)
I'd love to have a ride on the bike to see if the sweetest Maico frame of them all is improved by the later suspension and more power. It'd be cool to do a comparo between the 490 Frankenbike, '81 490 and '82 490 (and perhaps the '83 500) with a rider who is good enough to get the best from the bikes and intelligent enough to put their thoughts on the differences into words.

			-
Correct a mondo Mark, pre 80 has gone down here (replaced with Evo) when we affiliated with the darkside at MA and swung in line with them.
Bloody nice Bike Paul !

yeah right on Hilly, i heard they take a lot of laps to run in, heaps more than a Jap bike due to Square Pistons the square head Germans use !

			-
Cool as mate. What stickers are you going to run on the tank?

			-
				cool work Paul,
i'm curious, where you've mentioned earlier about sandblasting the barrel etc do you then coat them with something? and how well/long does the finish stay that way?

			-
Vandy, I've been running all of my bikes with bare sandblasted barrels for years and theyre still looking good with no special treatment. I got curious and dug the DT1 from Hell out yesterday and the sandblasted barrel is still as good as the day I built the engine. Considering that the bike has been in my garden shed uncovered for 9 years should answer your question mate.

			-
