Title: Frame/paint protection
Post by: Gibbit on January 12, 2015, 12:44:03 pm
I did a search on here but couldn't find anything.

Just wondering what people use to protect their frame where their boots rub against it.

I looked for Alloy frame protectors but came up with nothing for a YZ490.

Has anyone used this stuff??

This stuff looks pretty trick but probably not strong enough.

What youre after is soemthing with very good wear/abrasion resistance. The carbon fibre has poor wear resistance & the product you linked is for visual use only. Offers no structural or wear improvement (from what I can read). Maybe have a look at their web site & might find somehting more sutibale along the lines of the first link in your post?

Gibbit, the 3M stuff you linked to is the duck's guts.

It is an extremely tough, clear plastic they use on the leading edge of helicopter rotors.

With a bit of further hunting you can also get the even more wear resistant adhesive backed stainless steel foil version. 8)
