obviously havn't seen jimbo in the flesh ;D,stick a headlite on the Bsariel,(if they don't see ya coming, they'll definately hear ya :o), :P
-
the best bike is the one you can lay your hands on that'll start n go... :)
i rode my RT1 yammie in a Vinduro a few years back...
a big fat heavy slow old pig of a thing and i had a ball...
2 stroke anything i reckon... ;)

The KDX200 and IT200 are great. If you're not planning on going to Victoria, I reckon an 86-88 KDX200 would probably be the best choice.
If you need the bike to be Pre-85, then the KDX250 is the bike to have, IMHO.
But like everything related to old bikes, the bike you love is the one to be on.
-
Really Nathan? Not heaps of KDX 250's around and certainly not lots of parts available. Forks and brakes aren't a patch on an IT200. Can rebore the Yam. I reckon IT200 by a mile. Any model is fine for vic enduros, even the disc brake ones.

mick
I don't think a 1954 hs500 ariel would be a good vinduro bike and yes they will here me.
no one would want to pass me the smell of caster oil and a sound of the 60s speedway bike

85 maico ccm 500 can am sonic
Any husky auto
-
Im pretty sure he actually wants to ride Steves ;D

I have an astro 1978 that's no good either
-
Mustanggraham says disc brake model ITs are fine in Victoria , I thought they were 86 model, does this mean vinduros in Victoria are a bit more relaxed when it comes to eligibility or is it a carry over model
-
Should let the ranking Gestapo answer that one ????????????

1983 kdx250 putts around nicely then plenty of juice when you want it ,comfy suspension (really means on the soft side) ,handles good for a green bike , easy to start, hyflight USA ball saver seat , just happen to have one coming up for sale /trade soon 8) bit rough around the edges but will not break the bank @1500

I've tried to sell an awesome 83 KDX250 for a couple of years now and not been able to get any interest. It is one of the nicest Vinduro/VMX all-rounder bikes I've ridden.
My current Vinduro bike is an 85 or 86 IT200 .. fast through the bush, easy to live with, parts are plentiful and it's just a great bike to ride.
-
IMO The Husky 400 84 model is the best pre 85 Vinduro bike
IT 200 are dam good and easy to find.
XR 200 are so much fun to ride.
-
You've got to love the bike you buy, so get one that floats your boat

There's no question that the IT has better brakes and suspension. But the KDX250 motor is a magnificent thing, while the stock IT200 motor is all midrange without managing to be all that impressive even there. Plus the IT's riding position is cramped.
More importantly, you can never get away from that vague IT steering.
And the KDX's brake and fork woes are easily fixed with a KX front end conversion.
The IT200 is a great bike. But I prefer the KDXs by a considerable margin.

Nathan has got it ... the dx 250 is the motor except for the WR 400, now that's a motor. the husky has vestiges of brakes where as the kdx brakes head for the hills if a cloud forms in the sky...and they stay there!. you can disc brake em but the sad rear brake is a PIA. we all use the rear to balance and align and riding a wet dx 250 is an exercise in frustration ..and why I go down hills fast :o
that dx 250 is the best a/c motor known to man.
Vinduro? get a TS 125 and join the Harrow revolution!
-
Any bike that you can afford, have, or simply just love is all good. Parts availability is a big consideration.
-
Honda XR200RC are very cruisy and as you progress they will step up the pace with you, probably not the best bike in the era if your a gun rider but just a good all round fun bike, although after saying that ive seen top riders do good things on them, yep even the old twin shock ;)

1986 XR200 with a RE/RF front end on it.
-
Hey Geoff, do you have anyone under 120 years of age ride your vinduro's? ;D
-
Young Tom on Bultaco #1 aged 17. Little bastard lapped me twice in one lap at Tallarook. May review his participation in Team Bultaco! J PS Love the foot Geoff
-
Foot? Make that FOTO. Also look at Bultaco shot to see friend Andrew pissing himself because I had just given up trying to kick the Bulty into life and I was looking for Drakey to push me. Geez I hate cold starts! J

Looks heavy to push ???
-
I'll pay money to see they cross the river near the campgrounds at Harrow.
Good to see that they spent the appropriate amount on money on rear shocks, too.
-
I think you'll find the thing won't go anywhere if it's within cooee of a water crossing.
The rear shocks look to be Curnutts which by all accounts are a very good shock. There is a Curnutt sticker on the OMFG (what a waste) Simons forks.
-
I like it.
-
I tried to buy a 500 triumph version of that four years ago from San Diego the seller said he would only sell to a us buyer and four months later it was on eBay in the uk flower pot Ben found it all parts were the same yes symonds forks and currunt rear shocks but drum brakes front and back
