Title: Keeping up with the times
Post by: jimson on November 28, 2014, 05:13:41 pm
G'day Viewers just wondering how everyone does it ? New cars bikes even houses to me I like old character looking things I can't even get my head around my mobile phone. Am I stuck in the past ?
I'm not talking about cost I'm talking about the look & feel of these things & I suppose the technology as well. Jimson

I'm stuck in the past but not so much that I don't use the Internet for chasing up bike stuff and my mobile for keeping up to date on what's going on on here.J

Jimson,I'm with you. I don't try to keep up with the times. Hey remember the "old"mobile phones, the brick? I've never ridden a "modern"bike, still on 40 plus year old bikes. At least old stuff wasn't upgraded and obsolete on a yearly basis. Having said that I reckon my 8 year old computer is good.Enables me to find any "old stuff" I'm wanting. John 25-35,I can't remember that far back(LOL).

I can remember when I was young you would see a HR going down the road with a v8 installed & think it was cool. Now days kids put a cannon exhaust on there car so the thing gurgles & farts & they think it's cool. Or you see a bling ute that's never done a days work in it's life. Jimson

Remember when people bought 4WDs because they used them off road?

Remember when people towed horse trailers and caravans with RWD sedans because they could. J

remember when people

- bought bikes and didn't change the graphics so you knew what brand it was
- didn't have multiple wierdo piercings at MX races
- spent money on suspension instead of crappy black or purple colored rims and non performance bling parts
- changed lanes AFTER using the indicator
- gave way to you because it was a nice thing to do when trying to merge into grid locked traffic

oh and remember when Vic Ambo's never used to write graffiti on their vehicles  ;)

In 1983 my KX had a black seat, I had it reupholstered in blue coz coloured seats were all the rage.
My current modern bike had a red seat, I had it reupholstered in black gripper material coz black seats are all the rage now.

Full circle ;)

Top of the line new cars come with chrome or fake chrome mirrors & door handles nowadays & the poverty pack comes with body coloured jobs, remember when it was the exact opposite.

Full circle ;)

More power to ya Jimson :)

For a while I worked as a storeman for the Good guys customers would buy big ass TV's & want to take them home in there big ass 4WD's & didn't realise the seats would fold down in them. So much credit & no brains. Jimson

Sometimes time blurs the past,I really miss my Ford 302 XC ute, having to wear a raincoat when it rained, because the body flexed and the windscreen never sealed. But hey it could do a good burnout which seemed to impress the girls.I even made a Motocross Action sticker(out of contact)for the back window, and never went anywhere without my bike in the back.

As far as riding gear goes,Motocross always allowed me to wear whatever colour and style I liked, unlike most other sports( that's why I'll never play bowls). The biggest advantage is as you get older, nobody knows your age until you take your helmet off.Which saved me from getting a ticket for wheel standing along the beach on Fraser Island(it's a public road), the nice Policeman just told me to act my age.Tip- they are a lot tougher up there now,the Rangers check you out,and don't give second chances!

Yep, I remember when most of my clothes fit me and I could chose what colour riding gear I wanted for the day. Now whatever gear fits gets the nod  ::) Even my newest helmet is a pain to get on and off.......

Yes remember when you were young & the only safety gear you had was a helmet & maybe some boots. If you were lucky your bike would last a days riding as it was bought with pocket money?
You would ride in the bush no mobile phones just some mates & lots of fun.jimson

im a short arse and no matter how many weetbix  i do i will always be a short arse.

I like my old TS185 cause i can actually swing my leg over it without doing my manhood an injury or looking like a monkey on a moped. i can remember most bikes were like that.

My 08  KLR650 mounting instructions are a bit different..
Breath in
Secure the lads
Start running
Hop skip and jump.

Yep...I remember those days alright.....Wearing an open face Bell helmet, A Scott "race face", a pair of el cheapo gloves, Boots from the Fire Department, a pair of Woolies "Flared Bogart" jeans and my favourite silk Hawaiian shirt......all turned to shreds when I came off on the railroad sidings flat out in 6th gear on my then new 1980 CR80. I spent the next 3 days in hospital getting "scrubbed" with Detol and a scrubbing brush to get the 20mm shrapnel out of me......It was another 2 weeks before I got home to see my totally destroyed "new" bike. No mobile phone so it wasn't until some other riders found me and they went to get me the help I needed on it's way.....ahhh, the good ol days.

TBM if you were a poor bloke like me. You wouldn't of got hurt falling off a clapped out shit box going as fast as a shit box can carry you. You had a go fast new CR80 lol

There was nothing new about the CR80 when I was finished with it......even the swingarm was broken! The only part left in one piece without grazes or dents was the front wheel.
As for going fast....I remember fixing up a mates kids peewee 50 after his dog chewed the seat and wiring to bits. Once I got it all back together I had to take it for a test ride so down the local park I went. Things were going great until a great big German Shepard came out of nowhere and crash tackled me. I still have the scar in my thigh where the handle bar end made a nice round hole in it.....and I had to get new handle bars for the bike  ::)
