G'day,
I am restoring a Yamaha RT2 360 trying to update the ignition to pointless..as well as avoid the nasty kick back... Have heard DT400 ignitions may bolt on? any advice

put variations (key words)on the subjest up in the search box and search, I know there is alot of useful information on the subject already ;)

Just fit a PVL, you want a rotor, backing plate and a NR1097 stator copmplete kits are about $400. Set and forget.

Have heard DT400 ignitions may bolt on ? Yes easy as, straight fit up, stops heaps of kick backs too!. :) Finding a DT360A or DT400B ignition set that still works ..... umm Good luck with that....... :( Tim754 Freaky above has given you the go ;)

Find the 1977 on DT250 / 400 and you'll get the full lighting coil with similar plugs to go straight into your two power supply plugs. 1977 /1978 IT 250 /400 systems work also but you only get a single wire power supply (about 20-25W). Still works for lights but no battery charge circuit. I think you can fit the DT lighting coil in the IT but not sure about the width of the rotor. Backing plates are all the same for DT/IT/YZ 1977/78. Rotor for YZ is narrower (lighter) than the DT but not sure about IT ones.
You'll also need the cdi unit. (YZ/DT/IT will all work just make sure the wires are still in good condition at the base of the CDI box.) Everything is pretty straight forward to plug and play.
I run a 1978 or 79 DT250 flywheel and YZ400 cdi on my RT1 race bike. I'm about to start restoring a DT1-F which will run a DT250 ignition also. RT1 has great spark and no kick back (yet!)
Good luck finding one out there, we are all chasing them for our current or next projects.

you must get an ignition with an outside flywheel.
