Title: Shipping from U.S.?
Post by: Racer X on November 18, 2014, 01:28:30 pm
I'm looking at buying a rolling chasis (no motor). Anyone know if it would be cheaper to box it up  or just roll it in? Any advise would be much apreciated.

the import taxes now make sure it is at least 500.00 aus $ cheaper than you can get here.the 250.00 dollar fee that customes put on now for evey invoice under 1000.00 makes the deals not worth it any more also under 90cents for aus $ is not good.use to be 1.10 us to 1 aus$

At 87 cents to the US $ is actually 82 cents in real terms, you loose 5 cents in the changeover....it will drop further over the next few months.

I bought earthmoving equipment from the U.S. when the dollar was $1.05 in 2011. I guess customs fees would be avoided sending the bike inseperate boxes, valuing each at under $1000? I just need a cost effective courier.

there is new fees 250.00 for each invoice under 1000.00 so if you have 2 it will cost you 500.00 customs fees its not duty or any tax its a new fee flat 250.00 for each invoice under 1000.00
i just got 2 engines from the uk
got charged for x ray and then a handling fee on top
i have the invoice now
quarantine exanination fee                          88.00
destination service-formal entry fee           275.00
destination service-customs handling fee   132.00
if one was not a nos astro engine i would not have bothered and yes 1 invoice under 1000.00

Sorry jimg1au but I dont see that $250 you are talking about(88? 275? 132?). Can you explain. I purchased $600+ dollars worth of parts from US and there was no $250 fee.

Riight. I see what you mean. It only applies when you use a third party importer. I only use USPS, UPS,FedEx to ship parts. Had frames, forks, swing arms, tanks, wheels, etc shipped with no issues. And $250 is not that much to pay as long as you get that special bike or part you want  :)

tomas
my shipper tells me that usps ups fedex supplied the aust govt with all the details of how much was being del by third party importers.
I used to pay 30 for an engine 20 for a wheel 100.00 for a frame and most boxes of parts 30.00.now all is changed
