Title: Scan your bike tests and stick em here.
Post by: John Orchard on September 25, 2014, 09:51:37 am
I thought it'd be a good idea for people to scan magazine bike tests and put em in one file, hopefully admin will make it a 'sticky' so it's always at the top of this classification?  I always love reading about the bikes I have, from back-in-the-day.  Start it off with the bike in question written in bold as below, will make it quicker to scan for your bike.

HONDA CR500RE 1984 - Trail & Track

Thought I'd start, seein as I just bought a CR500RE, I went looking back through my old Trail & Track's and found the test I did on the CR as 24 year old, not bad for a kid (even if I do say so myself  ;) lol )

Nope, due to a Les Swallow error, both mags were marked "July '84".  I have the mag with the SC500 test if you'd like to read it?

Ummmm, had three over the years, Maico breako comes to mind, decomp lever mount broke straight away from new, exhaust burnt a huge hole in tank within half an hour. Chain adjusters broke constantly. Bent bottom shock mount on all three, air filter mount broke destroying 1 motor. Cables where crap, you could pull the front brake lever into the bars without the actuating arm even moving, cable just compressed. Rear hub rubbed on swing arm if chain was adjusted to far back.
But then there was that MOTOR, best way to describe it would be say it is a slightly more powerful, torquey modern KTM 300, which is universally considered as the best 2t motor....ever.(that should start a whole other thread)
Would I buy another one ? Do you know of one for sale? I got cash.

ADB's 85 KX125 test.
And an article on each of GE's 87 and 88 KX250 enduro bikes.

I think there will be a few things on the fire, for 1 I've just scrapped the entire air filter system, could not believe the chain rub marks, right in the wrong place, I can see how you could destroy a Motor in quite a few ways :o, gone the way of Venhill cables, any who I think that will do, better get my sorry arse out there and keep ploding :P
