Rebuilding my sidepiper and while preparing the frame for powder coating I removed the ID tag on the front of the headstock and I noticed a second frame number underneath. Anyone know the reason for this 4 digit number? I thought it might be to identify the actual year of manufacture, as the tag lists the frame and engine number etc but it only lists the year as ( 196_ )

Zane, my frame had the same series of numbers under the ID tag as well. I didn't take a note of what they were but I guessed they were just an internal record of annual production perhaps. My tag has all the usual numbers as well as having a 9 stamped in the year section.
By any chance would you have a spare column for the steering head, I don't need the triples just the shaft.

Sorry Rob very few spares. When I got the bike it was almost complete and very original but sadly not to many extras, bar maybe a couple of coils and a extra rear sprocket which are about the same size as a car dress rim. If you can't find one then it shouldn't be to hard to machine a new one.
