Considering the cost of restoring a tank, decals, prep, paint ect I reckon this is pretty realistically priced, and your restored tank will always be just that. This is a brand new item. Just my 2c.

For another $800-00 I bought a KX  1974  and enjoy riding it .... unlike that tank  ;D
It was only new once , that was back in 1974 ..... supply and demand plus greed  are what drive prices up.   My 2cents worth

Nice tank & fuel tanks are pretty much the showpiece of any bike, but who has NOS bike to put it on? Why not have a restored tank on your restored bike? It would cost somewhere between $450-$650 to restore one & end up with a nicer job using modern coatings. The words "New Old Stock" are great for sellers who get hold of those inflicted with the VMX disease of the mind. Personally I hope he gets his price. If you had 15 million dollars, $1500 would seem like small change.

Well said Michael,
I had a tank that you sprayed a while ago, real nice thick coat of 2pak clear over the motofox.... Great job. Even a spraypainter would be proud of that job...
