G'day folks,
Looking for an 1983/84 XR500. I'm on the sunshine coast so if you have something you no longer want let me know. Basically chasing rolling chassis and engine. not interested in road gear, forks and plastics etc.

I'm on the Sunshine Coast and have an 85 XR500 roller frame with airbox. No motor though. Any help?

I'll do some research on the 85. Was hoping to make a pre 85 but not really necessary. Main thing I require from the XR frame is the 83/84 geometry had the rake at 25.5 degrees which is perfect for what I want to do.

Hey mate - pretty sure the 85 XR is actually an XR600, not 500.
The XR500 last model was the RE 1984.
Happy to be corrected - but I just built an 84 XR500 so feel quite confident.

Sorry Steve, it's an XR600 roller so definitely no good for you.
What are you building? I have a bunch of XR500RC's as I reckon they are a better motor that the early RFVC motors. I run disk brake front end on my race one but aside from that it's fairly stock and it's a good thing to ride. Will be better when Noel rebuilds my White Power shock for it :)

Simo, looking at a building a dirt track bike. Was reading about the dual carb setup and the steering rake on 83/84 models and it sounded like an easy/suitable build. No need for deraking the frame and little or no bog in the engine performance.
Looking for some RZ350 forks to keep it pre 85 also. I'll run a disc up front. Two wheel sets 21/19 & 19/19.
There is some TT bits in Bundy that would make a good start that I might look at also. But that will require frame mods.

Steve the XL500 79,81 has a steep steering rake 26 deg no need to change it , The XL500 wheel base is 1400mm same as a jawa ,gooden specs
then put some 36mm early XT,TT500 inline forks on it ;) .
and the alloy TT500 model swingarm will work on the frame to, for some weight saving and some shine 8)
Put a XL185 tank on it aswell.
then wack a champion or XR750 seat guard combo on it , they are a cheap dirt tracker plenty of parts out there and cheap as chips, and they seem to honk along aswell .

I have a spare 82 XL500RC roller if that's of any interest. First of the pro-link XL's and has 21" front wheel and square steel box section swing arm already

I'm definitely after the 25-26 degree rake, not sure how you would pull the 82 back not being a cradle frame. Open to suggestions!

You would have to have the engine in the frame to keep the down tube in place ,while you cut the head stock and then take measurements from diffrent spots on the frame to make sure it gos back on straight and square and use a string line or alloy straight edge to keep the head stock straight and in the middle of the frame , I have deraked a TT500 and DR500 in the pass with no probs..

You can change fork rake by using a various triples with different offset's. Buy a digital level from flea pay would be a starting point.
