Title: TM400 Rear Hub Rubbers
Post by: Toolboy on September 03, 2014, 09:20:45 am
Gday all,

I have replaced the rear hub rubbers on my TM400 but there still is some play on the sprocket mount when fitted.

40yrs of wear so Im wondering if anyone out there has fitted a shim behind the circlip to stop the play???

Thanks

Tim

Done a couple of those, you have to machine the hub flange and then make up a new sleeve, a bit of farking around but have seen some bodgy repairs done. Chains make a mess when they come off.

Better off not to shim it up to stop the rocking or bad things could happen to the circlip & groove. Never done it but machining & sleeving sounds the cure, then you could shim the side clearance later without side loading said circlip. Comon problem on all my old trail Yamahas too. Give me my "68 DT1 with it's sprocket mounted on it's own bearing/stub axle thingy, fail safe that way plus you could change the wheel without loosing sprocket & chain etc. Buggered if i know why they changed it as wasn't heavy or anything.
