I had a nip up on my tm250 which resulted in a stuffed piston and rings but the bore seems ok except for some alloy stuckon it around the exhaust port.
I would like to get it off and check for scores incase it is useable without boring it to the next size.
Does anyone know of something that will get it of prior to honing,

Yep, did exactly this on the weekend fixing up my little YZ125G that siezed at the Toowoomba Nats earlier this year ... took all this time just to get the motivation for a 30 minute job :)
Once you've used the acid to remove the alloy, you can use a bottle brush hone to clean it up. If you don't have one of those then a light "hone" with 220 wet n dry across the bore (not up and down) should clean it up nicely
