Title: Not really VMX but vintage crap all the same...
Post by: Doc on July 04, 2008, 01:10:40 pm
I'm looking for a TS250-1 or 2 '69/'70 stater plate or just a primary coil from said plate. Same coil/stator fits the early Suzuki TC120 Cat and the B100/100P from the '60s. I just stole the stator from my B100 motor for the TS but I want to replace it as the little B100 is a vintage trials bike project in itself. Not available ex Suzuki Aust. but that's not to say someone hasn't got one still. Original part number is 32140-07020 My original plan of fitting TM250 ignition was going great guns, it all bolted straight in except for one small item, the rotor :-\ seems the early cranks have a smaller taper than either TM250 or the '71 and later TS250's..bugger!..ya learn something new everyday eh  :P

:D thanks Mick but for that sort of money I could send my coil away and have it rewound. They are not available new but far from unobtainium  ;) thanks anyway  :)

Bill easy to spot, the B100P is actually 118cc but as you can see from the cases it runs a longish stroke and a huge flywheel ;)

the stator plate. Same 3 screw mounting pattern as all TM/TS250

the flywheel, TS250-1 B100 same animal..

a flywheel and crappy stator I was going to flog the primary coil from but someone had beaten me to it..

get this, I spent about 8 hours today and last night trying to get spark. I changed the primary coil to the known good one, I changed the ignition coil 4 times, the plug cap, the plug twice, brand new points, double checked all wiring and connections for earthing or leakage, I rewired from the coil to the ignition, I tested the condensers and resistance and such and it fell within specs, made sure the coil had good earth, kill switch was disconnected ,tested coils and plugs on other bikes and they all worked fine, checked the ignition was not 12 volt ala TS400's, flywheel woodruff key was there, cross referenced the coils and numbers to B100 but nope, they're the same, nothing worked, still I had no spark. Guess what 'I'd' done wrong?  ::)

my guess...1  points wire not on correctly
2 did not set points gap
3 I give up, spill the beans doc

:D I'd love to Gorby but I racked my brain for 8 hours, probably more when I think of all the time away where I was still wondering what the heck was going on :D a hint..it's not the points, condenser, wires or gap but it is still something in the stator area. I forgot to mention, I swapped the flywheels as well but this was not the problem either :P something they did at the factory, the stators looked the same with same parts and numbers, nothing was faulty buuuuuut..I shalll disclose the problem at 10pm tonight on the playskool clock that's now running on time :D

Was it "flywheel had no points cam" (cdi type)?

noooo..what they did to make the stators compatable to both models was simply swap the position of the lighting coil and primary coil. Naturally when I bolted the B100 coil on the wire had a predetermined bend that I'd left when I'd had things apart. I assembled it together using the original bend in the wire as a guide to the primary coil position. I knew it went right beside the points  ;) The lighting coils had both been removed by this time so who's a dummy!  ::) I never gave the coil position a second thought as I was too busy making sure it was okay and exactly the same as the other. Happy now, it was the very last thing I could possibly think of but I have a fat bleu spark so it's all go  ;D

Did you hear todays news about the Pilgrims who've flown in for the World Youth Day celebrations?
The Youth Day is in Sydney and these 50 or so people have billeted with 30 families in Adelaide.
They were told it was along way but assumed one or two hours drive. They thought Adelaide was a suburb of Sydney!
They've got a 1500km or 20 hour daily Bus journey to get to Sydney from their digs!
Do you feel better CG?

I have no idea what I am doing , but if a B100P is the same as a TC120 ,I have 5 of them if you can use any bits off them ???
