Title: 89 yz250wr
Post by: Paul552 on August 22, 2014, 09:22:58 pm
What's the difference between the YZ and the YZwr (wide ratio)
Is it just the gear box? Or is the anything else different ?

Lighting coil, blue replaces red.

IIRC, there were more changes to later models (18" rear wheel, bigger tank), but they weren't applicable to the 89s.
Also, the 89 models were far more likely to have a compliance plate compared to the other pre-96ish models.

Could you use for mx even with wr gearing or Nathan do you know if you can just change the gear set to YZ spec?

Softer springs in the forks and rear shock plus rubber mounted hangers

Only thing for MX, there is quite a big jump from 3rd to 4th gear....

Does anyone know what the prefix for the vin would be for a 89 or how to identify by the vin

If it has a 17-digit VIN, then an '89 model's tenth digit will be a "K".
My 94 YZ has an old style frame number (rather than a 17-digit VIN), so I assume the 89s also have an old frame number.
