Post by: Lewis on August 02, 2014, 08:28:10 am
Anyone out there able to tell me the correct names for the colours that the Ossa Stilettos are painted in? My model is the white and orange model.

This model OSSA Stiletto is a 1971 model, Honda only came into the Motocross  Market in 1973, with a fair dinkum go with their elsinore, and the boom for Honda was successful.

I think the white with red stripe looks the better & more traditional.

I would very surprised if you got the right colour code, any white colour would do.

The Spaniards sure could put together very pretty looking motorcycles.  :P
Among my favorites, these Ossas, and the Phantoms, Bultaco Mk4 Pursangs and Montessa VR's.

I think I just sold my soul, (& my chance to go to Murphy's Creek Vinduro weekend) for 6 days of obscenely well paid work.
Next time for sure.

cheers, DJ

Were these bikes ahead of thier time? To me they look as modern as anything Honda was doing in 73 if that pic is a 67.

they were ahead of their time or at least setting the standard of the time.

But you needed to be "clued up" on making them go, stop and actually run like they should. they leaked oil from the forks, the brakes wernt too great and the carb needed to be tickled to start them, covering the crankcase in 2/ which made it look like pooh in 2 minutes. they fowled plugs, loaded up and generally gave trouble after a short amount of time in the saddle. Once sorted, they were fast, had superior handling and suspension and good riders could make them go

Honda fixed all those things so joe blow could by an elsinore, fill it with fuel and go riding...on consecutive days!!!

add to the mix the bike boom of the 7o's and Honda and Suzuki nailed it. (the euro coffins)

Shit two stroke on the cases!!! More concerned about the mud and dirt than a dribble of fuel.
Fowled plugs you say. Aren't  fowls are chickens? Regarding making them go John,I didn't start riding till I was 60 years of age. More to riding a bike than going fast my friend,it's called "having fun".

A friend brought 1 of 4 imported to Australia in 1967, he still has it, it's is all red. He said one was pulled apart for spares at the time.

That's all that's ever interested me Lew but as an "interested observer" since 1971, going fast seems to be an obsession with lots of people :D ;D

early days at Ravenswood saw lots of euro owners pushing the bulty's ossas and monty's back to the pits with some drama or other as more and more silver and yellow bikes kept going round and round.

on the other hand you could see the Flood Bultaco's take it up to the new Japanese bikes for quite some time as the team knew how to sort the bikes. (Till the Bulty factory issues claimed their development process and they fell behind). Same as the Burrowes enduro team which had great success with the Ossa 6 days. But steadily the demand for clean, easy starting and low maintenance bikes saw the japanese pull away in sales and then development.

Beside all this have you picked a color for that piece of artwork you ride?? I like the orange and white. ;)
