Yes, after swimming against the tide for a few years now, we've finally been dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age! ::)
Well, actually that's not correct. In fact, we are pretty excited to be able to get VMX out to the world in a Digital format. Why? Because the magazine looks so damn good on an iPad or even a Desktop computer! Talk about convenient.
OK, so how do you get your digital VMX?
1. Either go to Pocketmags.com on your computer browser or download the Pocketmags app on your iPad or Android device from the app stores.
2. Create your Pocketmags account, by clicking on the Register button. You will have to provide an email address and a password to register.
3. Log in to your new Pocketmags account.
4. Search for VMX Magazine.
5. Click on the VMX Magazine image and it should take you to the area where you can buy either a digital subscription or single issues.
6. Select the magazine or subscripion you wish to purchase.
7. Checkout in the shopping cart, you can pay by PayPal or Credit Card on a computer, in an iPad you can pay using your iTunes account.
8. Go to your magazines and your copy of VMX should be there, ready for download.
The good thing about this system is that once you have bought an issue, it can be download to multiple devices, so you can have it at home on your computer, on your iPad/tablet or even your phone.
Cool huh?
Here a quick link: http://pocketmags.com/viewmagazine.aspx?titleid=2489&title=VMX+Magazine (http://pocketmags.com/viewmagazine.aspx?titleid=2489&title=VMX+Magazine)
We will shortly be offering a combined PRINT and DIGITAL annual subscription on the VMX Web site, so you can get both your collectable copy of VMX and be able to read it on the bus...
And best of all... over time, we will be adding ALL past issues to the digital catalogue, yes even the ones that have sold out ;)
-
And yes, the new issue, #58 of VMX is now available ONLINE as well. 8)

I suppose it had to happen.. but.. doesn't really fit Vintage...I enjoy reading the USA e version of Cycle News...( and it's free..!!)
-
Well, discussing this on an internet forum isn't exactly vintage either.... :P
-
AJay .... I will be buying the NLA back issues for sure 2 to 6 and at a fraction of the price ;)
-
Good on you. Issue #1 is currently being prepared to go online. Issues 2 and onwards will follow when we have time to get them done. :)
-
i have 2 questions if i may !
is the digital version available before the print edition and if so by approx how long?
what will be the cost of duel digital and old school copies ?
-
No, the Digital version will come out the same time as the print version. Issue #58 is out now, for example.
Yes, we will shortly be offering the Print and Digital editions "bundled" (savy internet term) on the VMX Web site at a discounted price compared to buying the Print and Digital subscriptions seperately.
-
Could kinda kill the value of those complete paper collections , might not be worth continuing to collect them as you could pick and choose what you wanted to look at. Its the modern way I know but as was once said " just because you can does not mean you should"
Im sure the thirty somethings and face book jockeys will love it.
Still i love the paper version and it is really good work and a credit to those who take the time to put it together.
-
On the contrary, I think that the complete print collections will still have their intrinsic value and also we expect the print edition to remain popular for the reason that it is a tangible quality item. This was a concern for me as well, but I am now comfortable that digital should be a positive for VMX Magazine, given that our magazine is not a news based publication and essentially not time limited.
Going digital give us the ability to expose VMX Magazine to many more people at a much lower cost (especially overseas) and hopefully grow the circulation not only of the magazine in total, but also in print. ;)
If I was a customer, I can assure you that I would be buying the bundled Print and Digital subscription, when it is made available. (soon).
-
I like both forms,I mean you can't beat the serenity of some quality time on the crapper reading the latest edition ! :D
-
Ah, too much information... although you could also take the iPad in there with you. ::)
-
Just downloaded the latest edition.
Cue the sound of toilet door closing ;D
-
Craig - did you put a mark on?

face book jockeys will love it.
There lies my question, will the pages/photos be water marked with our superb photographers for their credit ?
-
How do current subscribers access the digital version? Do we have the ability to upgrade to print and digital within the current subscription period or do we need to wait until current sub expires before renewing?
-
Great question. :)
No, current subscribers do not have access to the digital edition. It is effectively a seperate product to the print magazine, provided by a third party. Because digital is provided by different suppliers, "lining up" the print subscriptions with the digital version is only really possible when the print subscription expires. At that point a "bundled" print and digital subscription could then be purchased from VMX Magazine at the combined discounted price.
For subscribers that have only just renewed their print subscription for issue #58 and are interested in a digital subscription also, please email me at [email protected] and we'll see if we can work out a way to make it happen for you.
For subscribers who are on their 2nd and 3rd edition in a annual subscription, you can either wait until your subscription expires to go digital or maybe consider purchasing issues 58, 59 and 60 individually if you really need the digital versions.
Obviously for subscribers whose subscriptions have now expired with the publication of issue #58, you will be able to buy the "bundled" print and digital subs on the VMX Web site in about a week from now when you renew. And if you want issue #58 digitally, you would need to buy it as a single issue also on pocketmags.com.
Having said all of that, I will enquire with the Digital supplier to find out if partial subs are possible to allow existing subscribers to add digital to their existing print subscriptions because it would be nice if we could do that. ;)
-
Away are you planning in the future to have a photo archive and perhaps historic video similar to that excellent pommy rag Motor Sport? Jerry
-
Yes, the intention is to add extra content such as photo galleries and possibly videos to digital versions in future editions of VMX. At the moment we are just pleased to have a digital version and have not had the time to explore and utilise the full functionality of the digital format.
-
OK... It appears that we WILL be able to offer the Digital bundle to existing print subscribers, at the discounted "bundled" price. :D
We will advise how by email in the short future. ;)
