QVMX are proud to bring everybody the 2014 MAXIMA RACING OILS CONONDALE CLASSIC, to be held at Green Park, Conondale on the 9th and 10th of August. All the great events that we had last year are back on, all classes from PRE 70 to PRE 90 as well as Women's, 80cc, 4 man relay tag team, 4 stroke, Sidecars and the PRO class. Darryll and Shayne King are coming over again from NZ and all the local fast boy's will be there [Deacon, Army, Belly, Bailey and co], also some fast interstaters [Ballard and co]. There's a few other big names that we are trying to secure, will let you know in due course.
We also have MXTV coming up to video the event and will be showing our sport on National TV. Macca will be interviewing some of the legends and doing commentary.
There is also the SHANNONS Insurance "Happy Laps" for those who want to parade bikes or just want to ride around the track that there hero's have just competed on. this is non competitive and you can do it on a practice licence to keep the cost down.
There will also be some trick bikes on display.
All amenities will be available, food, hot showers etc. Set up from Friday the 8th.
This is the 3rd year that MAXIMA RACING OILS have sponsored this event so make sure you use there products. Great company helping the VMX community.
Entry includes a T-shirt to mark the event.
Don't miss out on Australia's biggest VMX race meeting of the year, last year 182 entries, lots of happy riders and spectators, if you can't compete then come and watch, see the fastest VMX guy's doing battle in the PRO class..... make sure you come to the best event at the best track, see you there.
Anyone who wants to sponsor can contact me through here or Phone 0412 747 728 , cheers John Tate.
-
Interview might have to wear me suit and tie then ;D :D :D
-
You better start practicing your Aussie English then, we don't want another blubbering pom on the TV that we cant understand eh govner?.Better polish that trolley up too! ;D
-
That's funny, I like it....
-
Looking forward to my second Conondale this year. Hoping to race two bikes :)
-
When will supp regs be available? Will entry be via nominate.com? Looking forward to it ;D
-
Sup regs should be about a week away, and yes nominate will do the entry. We will let you know as soon as they are up.
-
Sup regs are up on nominate.com but are wrong :o They are for the Wyaralong interclub event. Need to be replaced with the right regs ::)
-
Sup regs correct on QVMX web site ;D ;D. Get your entries in!
-
Here's hoping they leave the track similar to the MX nationals on the weekend, Dave and Gary Armstrong, John kittle, Ricky Redding and a few others I saw loved the track and all said we wish we could have track like that when we ride, so come on give us a nice open flowing track, by the way the racing was fantastic at the nationals....
-
Yeah great idea Popeye, but (there is always a but). 3 laps would probably be a 15 minute moto for some classes and 21 flag points might be a problem too.
-
Good point, but we always finish early each day at this event so surely time would not be a factor, I'm sure if we could have a track like that to ride we will find some flagys.....
-
Are you holding your hand up Popeye?.....I have organised the same guy that had the PA set up at the weekend so we will have a good mic set up and with Macca doing the commentary we'll be on fire. Remember to smile for the camera's and to wear your best outfit.... :)
-
I vote Popeye as a announcer as he done and great job at the nat!s , you the man :)
-
2 votes for popeye
-
3 votes for Popeye,
-
Yer get Popeye to do it then I won,t have to taste his roost :D :D :D
-
Won't be no roost from me mister Lama, not riding at the event, will be there I'm sure, if asked I'd love to do some commentating it was good fun at Toowoomba being up there with OJay and then it was also great to talk and comontate with Brian Flemming, great guy, any way see what happens, I'm just hoping you guys get a good track layout to do your stuff...
-
Could someone tell me what the cost is for spectator entry and for non competitor camping as I've had some people ask me????
-
I'm out of the classic the mighty dollar is the reason sad really as I really enjoy the track and the company
-
I'm out as well, change of dates has killed any chances of showing up.
Always looked forward to the racing, the camp fire and watching my Yesterday Heroes (The Pros) goin for it.
-
Spectator entry $10 camping $10 so MR Tate says so you go and watch anyway Lama....

Woohoo .. I'm entered :)
-
Sweet So am I, all nominated up!!!!
The only thing I ask, is can I get another transponder on the day, there was no option to ask for another on nominate.
Cheers
Kim
-
You can get two mounts and swap between bikes Kim......if you remember to do it :o Is a hassle but saves a few bucks.
-
2 x Riders 6 X Suzuki's nominated ;D
Tim
-
If riding more than 1 bike zip tie your transponder to your helmet save some money that way, that's what I've done in the past...
-
Hey good idea Popeye...thanks.. i was not sure if needed a transponder for all bikes??
Cheers
Tim
-
At the Qld titles Andrew from My laps advised against mounting the unit on the helmet as the signal was very weak. Safest is a bracket on each bike and switch unit from bike to bike. Takes just a few seconds.
-
any idea how entries are going ?
-
Why does it always seem to be privileged info on how many entries we have to events???????
What do we have 60-80-100????????
Someone must no so they can do the program.....
-
As an experienced Race Secretary it always annoyed me when everyone wanted to know "how many entries". Sometimes I would still be processing them and didn't really know exactly anyway. All that the phone calls did was hold me up.
Anyway it is just under a fortnight to the meeting why does everyone think they need to know everything.
And I don't know how many entries and this is just my opinion.
Also entries close this Friday.

That information from Brian Fox intrigues me.. I understood that a "one event national licence" was just that...only for national events.. not local events....Anyone clarify..

I will be shot down by the MA lovers in a minute ::)
But as I understand it MA got wind that the event is successful and growing each year , so they have upgraded the status of the meeting to national rather than Local ???
Therefore they can put their greedy mits deeper into the pot ( while offering nothing in return ) . I wonder how many riders the event misses out on now due to this . A number of us used to do this event as it is and always will be a really cool event , but unfortunately the upgraded MA involvement has Fuct it for us this side of the water .
Sorry for the negatives ::) but it guts me that an event created and grown by passionate volunteer's has been hijacked by the money sucking machine >:( As with great people, great events are not immune to nasty Tumours trying to slow them down .
If you already hold a licence get your entry in ASAP as it really is a must do event :) great racing ,great organising club, great atmosphere , it ticks all the VMX boxes in everyway :)
-
Conondale Classic was made an "open" meeting by MA last year, pretty much for the reasons Bill said so if you don't have a licence then you need to get a one day National licence which cannot be issued on the day.....entries are still rolling in, over 100 at the moment, we are hoping for around the 150 mark.....it's going to be another awesome event. We still take entries on the day at this event. Don't be one of those people who say after the event "shit, I should have done that!" and have to wait another 12 months. Going to start setting up the track on Saturday, it will be similar to the MX Nat's last month.....fast and flowing. Glen Bell is all pumped up and is going to try and get a win for the Aussies...LOL......see you there!!!!
-
I have done all the classic, but due to the BS with MA and having to get a licence. I'm out of it this year.
-
Seems MA are forgetting that most of us do it for fun and think we all have bottomless pockets
-
You guys are unbelievable = if you promote an event that has international and interstate riders then its not an interclub anymore. Yep, I'm here defending MA, and MQ for that matter because (for starters) its under a MOTORCYCLING QUEENSLAND PERMIT. The only thing MA has to do with it is to be the fall guy for this opportunistic clap trap from those with an interest in their own agenda.
No doubt an outstanding event cos it is and always will be; but club day it isn't.
-
Tony .... we have 15 events - practice days included this season in SEQ and for a mere $290 a year for a full license . That equates to $19-33 per event. Ok so you only want to half the events - some do ..... it's still cheap as far as I'm concerned.

When you put it like that Stu it dont sound to bad :) Now the event has national status what extra cost are the host club lumbered with from the authorising body ? and does the club have to asorb these extra cost or do they have to incorperate them into the entry fee ?
This is probably not the place to discuss this as it could distract the focus away from what is arguably the best competitive VMX event this side of the world at what is without doubt the best venue this side of the world :)
Might start a thread in the appropriate place about the pros and cons ;)
-
Happy to accommodate you in a debate Bill.
looking at the entry cost on the sup regs and in light of the derogatory comments from John and yourself (and the expectation of rider numbers) I would think there may be some who may prefer you don't.
-
It's not the cost, happy to pay, it's having to apply weeks before, then having to chase MQ up to get it.
May be i just need to get my act together and get a full year licences again. ;D
I'll be spectator this year. >:(

Fair call Dave ( although i was talking about the overseeing of events in general ) out of respect to this fantastic event i will put it on ice until this event has been run :)
I think its a bit strong to take a shot at John though ::) i dont think he made any derogatory comments .
John is so passionate about this event and throws his heart and soul into it .
He would defend this event and the right to run it for the best interest of the competitors, with his last breath in the same way that you would defend the governing bodies with yours .

One thing that amazes me is that everyone uses the wrong terms.
There is no such thing as a one day licence or a one event licence.
The correct name is ONE MEETING LICENCE and for this meeting NATIONAL ONE MEETING LICENCE
Also what everyone calls an open meeting is a NATIONAL MEETING which you need a NATIONAL LICENCE for. Any meeting above a Inter-Club is a National Meeting.
If someone who hasn't got a licence still wanted to enter Conondale they probably could still get a National One Meeting Licence they just need to ring MQ and ask. The 21 days is so everyone doesn't leave it until the last minute, but don't wait until Friday. I could be wrong but give it a go.
From my side of things I would just like to see everyone use the terms as per the MOMS and that includes MQ and MA staff.
If someone thinks I'm wrong just read the MOMS and read definitions in the MOMS.
This is just my 2 cents worth.
-
Bill
I agree.
Kevin
you've spent well.
-
So the bigger the event the higher the cost..............is that because the risks are higher....I think not.
It use to be because the draw card was bigger, the gate/crowd should have been bigger therefore because ACU/MA invented the sport, they could command more from the punters. Not so in VMX terms until a couple of good Kiwis want to come and have some fun and run with some good Aussies.
Then the flag goes up and like all pollies they see the dollar signs.
Well, the sidecar guys are out.
Interesting bye line....Rugby League found out (by accident) how inadequate their insurance coverage was and are taking measures to fix that.
We should do the same and maybe fix two problems in one move.
-
Can the other classes have four lap races now?????
-
I applied for my license to MQ, got it in my hand 8 days after putting the papers in the post. With the discount for my one meeting license that I had paid for in the few weeks prior to applying.
Cheers

Dave,
What exactly is basic cover for death and permanent disability in monetary value?
Shouldnt this be dIsclosed on application as entrants are effectively taking out an insurance policy.
-
So now Dave has to be the MA insurance expert too. Bet that's not in the job description.
-
Page 70 and 71 of the MOMs Ted, its a capital benefit policy that covers just about everyone at a meeting.
-

Hang on a minute. It was just a simple question, which I duly got a simple answer from someone associated with the insurer.
Why the smartarse remark.

I don't know what you sidecar guys are complaining about, you get 2 (rider / swinger } for the 1 entry fee. What the? If the club members don't support these big events they will die off. As a past treasurer it will cost well over 20k to run this event do the math.
-
What's the weather going to be like. Hopefully we can get some showers leading up o the meeting. There is nothing like rain to make a track perfect.
-
Kev you know the weathers going to be awesome ;D a little rain into the lead up to soften things up and then perfect conditions for a perfect event :)
I believe you guys have some Kiwi MX royalty entered who will be wanting to take it to the top Aussies :) This event really sums up what VMX is all about to me, im only pissed because I cant come and play :(
Might yet come and watch though ;)

Thanks Simo that's much appreciated :) but thanks to lots of generous folks bikes are a plenty. However when I do get back for a ride I would love to take you up on your offer and would be happy to reciprocate if you get over this way :)
Its a red tape/ financial thing, but don't want to dwell on that, lets focus on how cool the event is going to be :)

-
I hope so
-
Is anyone coming up from Victoria that can bring a box of stuff for Rossco?....pm me if you can, cheers.
-
Hey Davey, we had some rain here at Woombye this evening. I'll check the Flood warning system tomorrow at work to see if anything was recorded at Conondale.
Better start getting that RM250A ready to bring up :)
-
Rains good Simo, the 250A is ready, get him to do a bank job during the week. ;D

Lol .. he runs one so no problems there :)
-
Tatey, the Flood warning system showed a whole 1 mm at Conondale within the last 24 hours. 2mm at Maleny and about the same everywhere else on the coast actually. The current BOM forecast is for some more light rain over the next few days and "possible showers" from Thursday and over the weekend so hopefully there is a bit more in it over the next couple of days but it's looking pretty
nice dry at the moment :)
Might have to get Foxy to work the sprinklers when he gets out there on Tuesday :)
-
Is anyone from Sydney coming up that has room to take an old IT400 back for Curly?
Please .. I need the room in my shed :)
-
Just to set the record straight, sidecars will be there and will enter on arrival. ;)
-
i think we'll have 8 or 9 thanks Dave.
-
Is anyone coming past Toowoomba to the Classic?.....need some stuff picked up, you can phone me on 0412747727, cheers John.

144 Entries... What an Awsome weekend, and watching some of those young blokes ride the old bikes unreal....
