Dunno where his nickname came from, but Chicken & Ron Lechien (both Kawasaki riders) were off the rails.  Sort of like JLaw these days.

I can't answer the question either but I do know that James Bubba Stewart used to call himself 'Baby Chicken' after Matiasevich. Which is where 'Bubba' came from...................  8)

I'm pretty sure he was picked up after some solid rides in 1986. I remember seeing an interview with Roy Turner (Kawasaki team manager) in about 88/89 when he was in their support team and the interviewer saying that he wasn't allowed to mention the "Chicken" thing cause it wasn't a popular nickname with management.

anyone? bueller?
