Title: KX 500 ignitin timing
Post by: subarumy98 on June 26, 2008, 05:46:48 am
HI Guys

KX500 water pumper evo class, What is the std ignition timing ? About 14 degrees BTDC.
Some friend of mine are struggling, she coughs splutters and breaks kickstart shafts.

but no holeshot joy yet.

I have tried a few searches, but no detail info so far.
PS> They are tryig to Jerry-rig an ignition to work, as the stock Kawasaki items are in VMX heaven someplace.

Thanks

T

This might not be the problem but its a start
1. Check your flywheel magnets for cracks as this will send false signals to the CDI
2. The stator is identical to a Yamaha IT 465-490 so do a OHMS test to make sure it is the OEM item
3. If you do get it going check the timing marks on the flywheel and stator plate line up with a timing light then set the timing at 14Deg BTDC. when running the marks should line up. as the revs increase to aprox 4000, it will advance, then retard to almost TDC at 6500-7500 RPM
Confusing eh!!!!
