I know of 1 in Victoria and two in NSW and im sure there would have been a few in qld (they are husky happy up there)
I believe there were only 1984 models (plastic tank) imported into Australia but happy to be proven wrong

We have 3 twin shock EVO's racing in our club BMCC 2 x TE's and 1 x TX. I own the TX and I know of another TX in north QLD. There are at least 4 water cooled pre 90 510's in Brissy and 2 x air cooled pre 90's. There is at least 3 or 4 hidden in sheds ready for restoration around brissy gold coast but still waiting for them to surface.
My TX is an original Oz sold bike I met the original owners brother at Classic dirt 9, it was later owned by Tony Mcmahon from retro racing, still has the retro sticker on the swingarm. I am the third owner since retro racing and it will never be sold. Regards
Glenn

There are 3 1983 510's on this side of the island( that I know of)....they also had plastic tanks..but shaped like the 81/82 alloy tanks...you can see mine progressing in the 'restos we don't know about' folder...it is a TE..
-

Two suckers, what are the chances ;D

Husky anorak alert.. 8) WR 510?? Don't exist! TE, TX, 510 and TC 500 are the four stroke twin shock models as Glenn mentioned.
-
your right, old nomenclature issues...any enduro version is a "wr" to the unwashed masses 8)
I caught up with ol mate who managed to snag a TE in 1984
He bought 1 of 3 or 4 bought into the country for the 84 4day enduro husky team. (it could have been for the ISDE but I would have thought they would be in Europe?)
he had ordered a bike on hearing about them in mid 83 but was told it was unlikely he could get one.
Pelle Grandquist apparently broke a leg and couldn't ride and his bike was then shipped down to Bendigo to fill the long standing order. ol mate couldnt believe his luck.
it was a stunning bike at the time. I rode it a few times and was mightily impressed!
be interesting to see if this actually occurred or if more were imported in 84/85

Didnt they run so hot they melted ignitions?
I have this vag memeory of Husky riders carrying a spare at events?
-
ol mate never had a drama. the two /'s had issues with the SEM's running hot and failing if they were allowed to get dirty (and some just poohed themselves with no reason (poor manufacture)).
the 4 bangers ran hot if flogged mercilessly and were hard to start (sounds like any 4/ to me)

Yep they gave plenty of trouble..!
I put a brand new SEM stator and flywheel on the one I had and it still stopped when it got hot then would start right up when it cooled. Talk about frustrating!
But I believe Shaun and his mate in Brisbane have sorted that problem on theirs...
-
I never heard that as his ignition lasted for 3 -4 years as he rode it once more when he tracked the bike down a few years after he sold it and it was still untouched, the biggest issue I heard they had was blowing the carb clean off with back firing.. ol mate spent some time fitting his carb back up every so often.
I had a 240 for 3 years from new and sold it with the original SEM ignition in it but I used to clean it religiously after every ride and hit it with contact cleaner. couldn't afford an ign then!
hot fail would drive you insane!!!
-
still no real answer to the original question, would have to talk to Hans i guess he would probably know. ;)
-
WR510s are very rare. Lots more TE510s out there...
;D
-
should start a new thread! that should get me the answer! ;D
-
For Desert racing the americans such as Larry Roeseler had oil coolers fitted. Up-Tite was one brand and i have seen another. One way was with an external 12v electric oil pump and the otherway they did it was a pump driven off the counter shaft.
-
my engine is the update engine, with sorted ignition and 1piece valve guides (phew :o)
-
Didn't this story have a lovely ending ;D ;)
-
no! I pulled the forks and front end to bits and half stuffed the collar thread when trying to persuade the head stem to part company with the top bearing. Phils thread repairs saved the day! a few bearings and a set of seals and onto a tune up for the motor..
As to finding out any history of this bike..... chirp chirp chirp. Pelle Grandquist is incommunicado currently and I got a nil response from a husky imports email.. probably no one there to remember these bikes.
never mind, on we go... will continue to tidy the old girl up and basically restore it to a good condition.

If you want info on them speak with Stefan at R&D Husqvarna in Old Bathurst rd Emu Plains, he "might" be able to put you in touch with Hans Applegren, Hans is THE MAN on Husky.
Been "speaking" with Pelle just last week, he is getting along ok, his words, still having treatment for medical issues (aren't we all!) but doing ok never the less.
Kt.
