Title: Wanted : Reputable seller of excel rims
Post by: YZ250H on June 24, 2008, 07:31:17 pm
Looking for rims for the YZ250H.  Would be good if they have the capability of drilling them to suit.  Hope to use standard NOS spokes.

Try Link International  in Brisbane, they are the importers for the rims . I did make the maschine for them to drill the rims , so I am sure they can do the job .

Links  - WILL NOT SELL TO THE PUBLIC  . They where 3 klms up the road ... now moved . Buy universal rims as they suit our era  . If you are having trouble send me a pm and I will get some prices  :)

I don't live in Brisbane EVO, but I get there regularly for work.

Oldfart - what are you suggesting in universal rims ?  Is that a brand name or are you suggesting generic ?

What about Morad ?  I was only going excel 'cause that's what everyone seems to go for. They seem to get good raps

Gday YZ250H, Try John Titman racing in QLD..(07) 3245 7699...I rang them the other day looking for excel's to suit a 79 YZ125 and the guy was helpfun and said they can drill to suit any bike in any colour they make. sounded all too easy. It was $199 a rim in gold colour. He was expensive on spokes, but vintage iron in the US have them for $90 a set made to suit. If you find any better deals on rims, post it if u can as i haven't purchased mine as of yet. good luck

Man that is cheap if you ask me.  I'll be going for your deal.  Does John Titman sell to the public ??  I remember calling them (I think) and they wouldn't sell me spokes direct to the public.  Of course I could be having a seniors moment ::).  I have bought so many parts and spoken to so many people they all blurr together.
I got a price off the lads on the sunshine coats for polished Morads, but I suppose we are comparing apples with oranges.
If I can get the Excels for $199 each I will be very very happy.  Thanks for the tip.
For sale  - 2 DID rims front full polish, rear beyond polishing  :D :D

Let us know how you go mate.  I will be close behind you - in fact I will give them a call tomorrow.  If he doesn't sell to the public we will have to find a friendly bike dealer prepared to take a small percentage for doing nothing.

I spoke to my old mate Byrner at Byrners Suzuki in Freakston (Frankston) in Vic and the rims for my 83 KX250 were Excel's and he got them from titmans, so i will order mine tomorrow from titmans and if there is any hassle, Byrner will get them for me. I will keep you posted! ;)

No worries mate.  Let us know how you go.  If they won't sell to the public I will put the hard word on the local Yamaha shop.  I think I should own about half of it by now ;D.  I will hold off until I hear - otherwise they might get pissed off at 100 people ringing up for rims they won't sell us  ::)

NOW THE 2ND GUY SAYS $330 FOR ONE AND $350 OR SO FOR THE OTHER. I AM A BIT LOST, MAYBE THEY NEED A PRICE LIST NEXT TO THERE FREAKIN PHONE.  >:(

I just got mine from www.Vintageiron.com  ph 00111-7146940066
I have ordered a fair bit of stuff from Rick, he is grouse. I was trying to get the rims local but it is around $500 for a pair of  standard gold excels then you would have to pay to get them drilled to suit. These will be drilled and on my doorstep for not much more than that.. within a week and a half. Just seems easier and less mucking around. 8)

My dad did the same thing through www.Rageracing.com for his 81 490 maico
(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll133/mxmaniac05/tassie08048.jpg)
They have stood the test time and stress test without any hassle!  ;D

Bugger - that's a shame.  With the exchange rate what it is at the moment the US is looking good.  I shall keep looking.  I guess rageracing only drills the rims for Maicos and Susies (?).
Shame you didn't get the first guy when you rang back.  Thanks for the tips MXM.

Titmans also sell SM Pro which are $200 each. Excels are dearer. ebay seller george7676 from time to time sells alloy rims for $220 per set including postage. I cant see them being any worse than SM Pros and i have given mine a work out.

I have put SM Pros on 3 of my bikes now and they are a lot cheaper then Excel and like Brad I think they are going the distance!

cheers

Rossco

Im with you Jimmy, I will pay good money to avoid headfork , and thats all you seem to get here with Wheels, I just ordered from Vintage Iron  silver Akront rims drilled to suit YZ250H and stainless spokes for $700 landed, Im willing to pay that for good service and no hassal, the whole Australian motorcycle industy (Les excluded) has its head up it's own arse!!!!!

E 74 , I am just in the planing to build a rim drilling jig  and assembling jig for Les . ( Same maschine as we built for Link ). After that I think, Les should be able to serve the VMX ers with ease . Its a fair investment  for him , and I hope he will get the support from  Australia  after spending all that money.

I'm all for buying locally, but sometimes you just feel like you are being had ::).
Not sure if E74's dollars are US or AUD (doesn't make much difference these days), but Akront rims and stainless spokes for $700 is a deal I don't think anyone in Australia would match (happy to be proven wrong).  I'm not trying to start a shitfight, just stating the facts as I see them :-*.  If Les can provide a good product with good service at a reasonable price I'm sure he will be inundated with punters lining up to buy from him.

Thats it E74, Vintage iron are hassle free i have found. Nothings a problem, service is 2nd to none and price is good.
Thats good to hear the SM pro rims are hanging in there for you guys..  I was steered away from them by a few people while rim shopping but i have never see one have a problem. I dont think they can be bad as there is modern race teams using them and supercross would be the ultimate test i gather. I was considering giving them a crack, but have never had a problem with excels before, and eveyone seems to be happy with there's so i figured i wouldnt change...
Rage racing  or vintage iron can get anything you like pretty much from what i gather.. They get there stuff from Buchanan spokes and do there thing from what i believe, i tried dealing with buchanan spokes but they wouldn't do gold rims.. only silver. I would say E74's price is AUD.
I try to buy most stuff local if possible, but i just cant get my head around why it takes longer to come from interstate or local, cost more and there seems to be always a fork up somewhere.. when i can get it cheaper easier and much quicker from the states to my door step.  I had a look at them Sun rims and if they had the right colour i was after, i would of taken them into consideration.
Is it Les from Mainly Maico you are talking about YSS?  ???

Absolutely, we need to get behind these guys in Australia investing in our hobby and support them as much as we can, Anything that I need that Les has or can get I will buy, I know it will cost a little more than buying stuff from him than buying direct from the US but as you say, he has made some substansial investments to provide us with some bloody good old fashioned Aussie service, and that is worth more than a little extra as far as I'm concerned.

Moss Street  =   Street =  approx 1 klm long that has every thing you need for a bike , be it a tyre supplier - or an exhaust fabricator - wheel straightening - wreckers - bearing supplier - new and secound hand bike outlets - and the list goes on an on -
Each outlet competing for YOUR DOLLAR

Lieth it is simply just a street name with a lot of outlets , that we up here call MOSS STREET
