Title: Big brother, little brother.
Post by: brent j on June 24, 2008, 06:52:53 pm
I found this at the local dump shop a few weeks ago and decided to build a pit bike out of it. I figure I'll never own an HL500 so this will be an hl50!
Dress it up to look like the 500 behind it (with motor of course!)

Sadly, early attemps at repowering have run into a few snags, the top mount is pretty close tho!

Seriously if I can't find an original motor I'll try and find a chainsaw or simillar motor, just single speed and centrifugal clutch. I do intend to keep the frame intact and original.

Tony, Doc gave me a lead on the little bike and it's an ITALJET "MINI".

What you see is what I got, I'm cleaning up the levers and cables at the moment. I have no seat or tank but they will be fairly easy to make.
I think the original motor is about 50cc, single speed and centrifugal clutch. It would be nice to keep it std but I'll use what ever motor I can get hold of.
I don't know if they are worth anything but it will just be my toy. I do intend to paint it up just like the XT. I may even loan it to my nephew when he's big enough to get on it. But I'll be wanting it back!

Here is a site with a piccy Brent. www.cybermotorcycle.com Italjet also made those "Indian" minibikes of the 70s/80s
You may have bang about in the site to locate the piccies, it has been changed (to hard to follow at times) from when I first used it. Tim

I found a pic of the bike Tim, it would be good to get it looking original again.
What ever engine I fit I'll try and keep the frame unmolested.

If he thinks it flies with the 200 4-stroke in it, I reckon the original 80 would have caused him heart failure...

But that's OK - I have little doubt that his reserve will be way above what anyone will pay for such an abomination....

The right front down tube could be a bit of a problem in the future, although they think the starter motor and footpegs are more of a concern ???
