Will a TS250 stator including backing plate and rotor bolt straight on to a TM250, and will i need to change any of the other electical components like ignition box the to fit lights? it is a 75 TM250M
-
Yes yes and no :)
-
Thanks for that william. i want to see it i can make it st legal and also set it up for vinduro.
-
a ts185 stator/rotor to the end of the piston port models will do the job as well and you can use your tm cdi box not unless you want a calmer advance curve
-
unless you want to red plate it, you don't have to have working lights for vinduro ;)
-
Easy way is a LiPo battery and LED push bike light

Street legal? A TM motor in a TM frame ?
How would that go with no compliance plate and no evidence of the bike being registered before?
Think I would just buy a TS and Build it to be a TS/M not a TM/S. Save a lot of registration hassles.

Keep the TM for the track and try to find a TS250A for your project?
-
the ts250a had more transfer ports then the older models and even tm maggie and clutch covers and alloy rims but they also had a chrome bore, could be hard getting rings for them now days. the earlier barrels go on but the transfers don't align up very well

yes Pokey - you're right. probably a lot of drama trying to register a dirt bike that hasn't been registered before. And maybe more prudent to get hold of a similar year TS frame and swap all the motocross bits onto it. I have been looking for some time for a 74-75 TS donor, but haven't seen anything worthy yet.
My other and more preferred option now after thinking about it is to VMX it in pre75, but it doesn't comply due to the amount of rear end suspension travel being greater than 4". So I need a 74 frame and swing arm to then swap the rest of the bikes running gear onto that. Likewise these 74 frames/swing arms in straight or unmolested nick seem to be rare as rocking horse poo and i can't seem to find one. (would welcome any leads).
I made a hasty purchase on eBay a few years ago and ended up with a 75 TM250M not knowing about the VMX year catageories at the time, and realise now I should really have got a 74 250L model. Lesson learnt. I don't mind that much tho as it is all original as it came from off the factory and unrestored, with low hours.
Cheers for the advise guys
