Title: 2014 Post Classic MX Championships Debrief
Post by: Graeme M on April 28, 2014, 05:55:00 pm
Well, the 2014 titles have been run and won and by all accounts the event was a beauty - well managed and plenty of top racing. A big thank you to QVMX and MAQ.

This new topic is for follow up discussion if you feel the urge. Please keep comments constructive, thoughtful and respectful.

I will comment later when I have time [all positive] but lets get one thing straight.....this event was run by QVMX at the Toowoomba track with the help of the Toowoomba club under MA rules......nothing to do with MQ or BMCC, cheers John.

Just to add to that.  The club running the track is the Toowoomba Motocross Club (not Toowoomba MCC) there are two clubs in Toowoomba.  The club did a fantastic job.

I stand corrected - big shout out to QVMX, Toowoomba MX Club and MA.  On the matter of lappers etc, I reckon it's better to discuss that separately as well, so I've started a new topic on that one.

There is one big question to answer.

Who is going to run the Australian Post Classic Championships next year.

As I see it, it is up to either Viper or Heaven to put their hand up.  You need to start planning now!!!

Whoever runs it if I can I will ride.

The Toowoomba PCMX was my first nats & was absolutely fantastic. Like for so many others, it was a long journey but a great experience. The club & their faceless helpers/workers did a great job, very professional & well managed.

I travelled 5,115 kms, crossed 4 states, used 587 lt of fuel @ $948.67, spent several days on the road & had a very enjoyable time. The track was truly picturesque & looked like it could easily have been somewhere else in Europe rather than Qld & especially being so close to town/facilities etc, is a real gem.

The track was challenging to everyone in some way at some stage but perhaps the second of the uphill jumps between corner 4 & 5 along with between corner 8 & 9 could have been left out & just settled on single jumps there. The Superfast guys jumped them all togther anyway so didnt slow them down one bit but they presented issues for the punters in the middle & the rear. Gotta say my favourite spot is the view from either on or behnind the start line. It is a magnificent sight looking up the start straight from near the canteen/bar area where you can see 99% of the race track.

I think that the bar has been set very high at the innaugural PCMX Nats & a real challenge to meet or exceed for the next club/state to host as the few little areas that have been raised by everyone for improvment or "could have been better/different etc" are minor & insignificant in the overall running of the event. Well done to everyone involved, great effort  ;)

Full vindication at last for the "split". Biggest Nats prior to the split, Conondale with approx. 160 entries. First Classic only Nats after the split,  Wyaralong 166 entries (a record). First Post Classic Nats after the split, Echo Valley, 130+ entries.
Total entries for both Classic/Post Classic, 300.
Both events were highly successfull, with the obvious benefits being:-
Racing completed over two days, instead of the tree days of 2010 and 2011.
Coming of age of the Pre78 classes
Introduction of classes for Pre90, age groups for Evo, and Ladies.
Tracks more appropriate to the two eras.

Well, the 2014 titles have been run and won and by all accounts the event was a beauty - well managed and plenty of top racing. A big thank you to QVMX and MAQ.

This new topic is for follow up discussion if you feel the urge. Please keep comments constructive, thoughtful and respectful.

I see that others have been initiating survey monkeys for up & coming events (CD10, VDT etc) so may be a good idea to do the same for post events as well (PCMX would be a good start, followed by CMX later this year). If the hosting club/body/association want to see how things went overall, what went really well, what could be improved, get a demographic of who attended, why, were they were from, where they stayed, what they contributed to the event & local community etc etc. The list of questions can be structured by the collective bodies to paint an objective picture of event (no emotional shading) & sent out to only those whose who entered/attended etc (assume they have everyones email addresses).

This information would be most helpful for future events, attracting host clubs & even for marketing to regional towns etc who could see the tangible financial benfits to host such an event which may lead to greater support (inc fininacial).

Just an idea that may be beneficial to future state & national titles or big events such as CD, BBB etc..... :-\

Well put ideas Digga. With more info you can go to the likes of the city councils and tourists groups and put suggestions to them.
I know when we told Toowoomba council that we were having the Sidecar Spectacular at Echo Valley, they were very keen for us to make it an annual event and they were interested in giving a grant to make it happen.
Unfortunately we couldn't convince the ASA to travel to Qld every year but we could make a good case to have Mountain Man CMX every year.
