Ok all you Honda Guru's whats the Hot up Tips on the XR250R 1982 . Do you need the Decomp setup ? Does it Work and is it worth fixing it .What do you do with the Speedo drive ,can you buy a spacer for the Front wheel or Just make one ,I havent pulled it apart yet . And the Rear wheel is 17'' standard ours is cushion drive and 17 " rim. thanks xrhillyhttp://(http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb130/yzhilly/101_2711.jpg)

Hilly. Get the decompression working if you can mate. My XR500 had broken decomp cable and snaped of the kick starter shaft while I was kicking the big bastard. 250 might be easier on the foot but why risk it. The 500 is also 17 inch rear wheel. Standard set up. ;)

I wouldnt worry about a decomp lever, see if you can push the kickstart past TDC yourself then bring the lever back up for a full kick.
These run hot when worked hard so I would keep the oil fresh or get big fins welded to the head by Ballards or someone.
The bike looks ok for its age, good luck.

Thanks Boy's for the tips , Is it worth fitting a Oil cooler to it ???. Hey Gorby i havent told Luke yet but he may xrhilly. I only need a Clutch cable and some Control levers to get it going so hopefully i wont need any parts .

Not too many performance parts for the motor, it was only around for a couple of years before it was changed to an RFVC design.
Wiseco still do a 10:1 compression piston for it. Mine hasn't been run in yet, so I can't comment on any performance improvement. The maximum oversize they do is 2mm if you want a bit of extra displacement.
Megacycle Cams still list performance camshafts for it (http://www.megacyclecams.com/catalog/catalog.pdf (http://www.megacyclecams.com/catalog/catalog.pdf)), but I have have never tried to get one.
Left my decompressor in, it makes it easer to kick and has never given any trouble.
There is an article here http://www.oldrice.com/Swissoil.html (http://www.oldrice.com/Swissoil.html) on fitting an oil cooler to an older dry-sump honda motor. Shouldn't be too difficult to do something similar.

there was a fair bit of stuff for these motors even frames for the twinshockers
honda did a head with bigger valves etc and carb kits
oil cooler kits were around to
the wiseco piston makes a diff think the most you can go is about 265 or maybe 262 was ten years ago when i had mine
some noticeble gains can be made with the muffler to and not just making it stupidy loud
think they made them for 5 years??
is yours 5 or six speed

I dont know much about this bike yet all i have done is fix the head and assemble it ,started it up last night and runs a treat, so i will give it a tidy up and tyres and give it to Luke and if he gets serious about we might look at it a bit more thanks for all the tips boys.
