I recently replaced the front brake line on my CR and put a seal kit in the master cylinder but am having problems trying to get fluid through the system, does anybody have any tips on doing this at home please, it just wont bleed up and the lever has no pressure at all.

this is the way i bid my old road bikes.
1 bleed the master cyl
2 attach hose to the bleed screew on the caliper.just sqeeze and relise.it is a 2 man job to make easy.make sure the hose goes into a bottle to colect the old brake fluid.
3 way is to get a easy vac these will suck the fluid through the line for you.
BIG TIP
dont let the fluid run out in the master cyl or you will have to start again

Get yourself a huge syringe, and some clear fuel line.
Fill the syringe with the brake fluid, attach the fuel line to the syringe and the other end to the bleed screw on the caliper, undo the bleed screw and use the syringe to fill the system from the bottom up.
This gets alot of the air out of the system straight away.

I was having problems with my kdx a couple of weeks ago just couldnt get it firm I figured that the re must be a bubble stuck wherethe line goes up then down so I pulled the m/c off and put it on a spare set of bars then hung them from the ceiling so the m/c was the higest point cable tyed the lever back and left it for a few days . Works great now

Bleeding the line can be pretty frustrating at times. All of the above is good advice. But if you don't have a syringe or a vac pump the '24 hour' method, as per Tom, works. Or take the master off and hold it at different angle as you pump to encourage air bubbles out of internal hideie holes.

get yourself a bleeding kit from supacheap or even crapmart. its a simple clear length of hose and a one way valve in the end, costs about a redback. emerse the end in a collection bottle and the other end on the bleed nipple.
open the blead nipple and start pumping . does the same job as someone on the other end just faster . keep an eye on the fluid level in the master or your back to square one.

Yeah, the bleed kits are good but sometimes you'll still have to move the master to different angles to get pockets of air out of internal hideie holes.

Or piss the disk and liquid off and fit cable operated drum brakes VMX style. ::)

allways fill the caliper up with brake fluid first after you do the seals less air to pump out

how often should you change disc brake fluid (ie how quickly does it take up water)? and should you always use a fresh bottle of fluid? if so, what do i do with the growing little collection of one litre fluid bottles that i never go thru cause best to use fresh stuff (spose could always fling it on the nasty neighbour's car....).

it should be changed every two years with new brake fluid that hasnt been opened

Only use DOT 5 - end of problems.
