Has anyone tried a later curved (Lowboy pipe) kickstarter on a 85-88 CR? Looks like it may fit.

I'm not sure what that kickstarter is off. The later model cr500 is 15mm longer than standard which would be very close to the pipe.thanks for the reply Bear.

Mate I have an '87 CR500 and tried a later model '89-2001 kicker and its terrible.
All wrong, hits the pipe, won't sit in enough, your leg hits it etc.
What will work is a CRF150 kicker and best of all they're available and cheap.
CRF150 kicker V '87 CR500 kicker and it should be easier to kick because of the better angle.

Well l purchased a kick lever from a CRF150R for my CR500RE, no good, it is too short; very hard to kick-over, plus the higher compression just caused the swivel joint to stretch and go sloppy after only 10 kicks :-(
I have been using a CR500RG lever as it's a little longer than stock but it still brings my boot too close to the side over, causing it to break :-(
Now l just ordered a 2001 CR250 item to try ...... Will give feedback.

I've used one from a 07 CRF450r not a bad fit
Can you get your bike to a bike wrecker to try different ones ??
Also a de-comp head will save your boots, cases, kick-starter mechanism etc
If you get a de-comp the oem kicker is fine
