Has anyone had any problems with third gear not engaging on a kx 500 and a problem solver

My 83 would jump out of 3rd gear occasionally, just had the gears undercut hoping that will stop it.

Yep the dogs will be the problem, either replace the gears or get the dogs recut.
Getting them re-undercut will be fine and it would be wise to get the all reset while it's apart.

3rd gear usually gets the most work out on the track

If your in Aus get em done at Coljen Gear cutting in Melbourne, done properly and Col is a nice guy, about a third of the price that i was quoted in Sydney.....less than $400 for full set (5 spd trans). Beautiful job i might add and as a result he has done 3 gearboxes so far for me.
