What bike? The Suzukis I've had*, have had a little plate riveted to the steering head, with the frame and engine numbers on them.
According to the plates, some of them have matching frame and engine numbers, others do not.
Helpful yes?
*All early 70s trail bikes, so I don't know how relevant it is to whatever you're looking at.

Nathan has it right, some do but the majority don't match up with the pre '81 zooki's ;)
I believe there is a list of models and numbers for ID purposes on the vintage suzuki site.

I think they just ran in a series. so for exp. a pre 75 L model TM has a 4000 number and any engine that came off the motor line went in it. with the 75 m they got the 5000 serial numbers and frames again next one off the line got the next motor and so on. They seem to have the same serial series for the model but they never meant them to match.
I think Suzuki had a habit i just picking up the next motor that came in to the line and sticking it in the next frame, cant say i have seen any pre 75 suzi with the same numbers. they seem to be a hundred or so out. Maybe the motor line also pushed out spares or the cases also came in from another part of the line and some were takin out for the spares dept etc.
Who knows.

none of my RMs or PEs have the same frame and engine numbers

I can honestly say I have never seen a Suzuki frame and engine number like above. RM11A is weird as it M101, could be an import but would need more info, preferabley a picture ;)

Paul, still at a loss with those numbers. M101 I have listed as '84 LT500 Quadzilla and I have no reference for frame numbers starting with RM11A. Only listing I'm unsure of is '85 RM500 as I have no info for this model. Nice lookin' bike by the way ;) a 500?
-
bet it's a RM500D.

Look up vintage Suzuki .RM #... scroll down to 1982 -83 . It appears to be the very first 1983 model as the RM 11a and M 101 are lised there in between

83 RM500D pictured below. I think that one is an 84 RM500E Paul.

85 RM 500 F has a disc brake front end. the one Paul posted has a safety seat. i dont remember seeing that in my 84 or 85 brochure so its probably aftermarket Answer, Ceet, Hi-flite or something like that.
general rule of thumb is no the numbers dont match, at least not on the old suzukis.
-
the one paul listed is an 84 e model
quickys is a d as he said what a beast master ;D
i have not seen matching numbers on rms before and i have owned and seen a lot 8)
-
never seen matching numbers on RM's before but I have on TS250's. There's 1 in the garage ;) I've seen consecutive numbers on RM's as I have 2 RM400C engines like this, I got the bro or sis by shear coincidence 15 years after I purchased the original :P
Russ, is RM11A a regular chassis number prefix for the RM500D?
