Title: Bikes you have had or still have.
Post by: Hoony on January 31, 2014, 04:26:26 pm
just a bit of fun here. lets list what bikes we have had (or still have) from the first to current. lets keep it to off road bikes and not Road bikes ( dual sport are OK like XT600, KLR650 etc). you can add the years kept and favorite of all time if you want and any other interesting thing. here is my list in chronological order, not a lot since my first in 1977.

1977 Honda XR75 K4   mine from from 1977 -78
1977 Suzuki RM80 B   1978
1977 Yamaha YZ125 D   1979
1980 Yamaha TT250 G   1980
1982 Yamaha YZ250 J   1983
1984 Honda XR250 RE   1984
1984 Honda XR250 RF   1985

1986 Honda CR250 RG   1987 till present My Favorite all time I had it set it up and competed on it for MX, Dirt Track, Enduro's, Desert Races in western Vic, trail rides with 14.5 Litre IMS tank, i had full road rego on it for 7 years then rec rego. its now retired.

Mark 4 Weslake Speedway Solo   1988 - 94
1986 Honda CR250 RG   1989 till 2013 yes another one
1986 KTM 540 EML Sidecar (Loan bike for 1 season in 1987)

What happened to the rest of your list, Hoony?!

That's it Nathan, not many bikes in my 36 years. tended to keep them from late 80's on and had a 10 year hiatus when i bought a house. there was a few roadies in there as well but that's it.

1972~ 1978 3 x BSA Bantam 125 D1's ( plunger tail)
1973 ~ 80 Yamaha HT1 90
1974 ~ now 74 Honda Elsinore CR125M ( first race bike, my all time favourite)
1976   75 Honda CR250M1 ( only new bike I ever had, they were giving them away at the end of 75)
1977   76 Yamaha YZ400C ( new stator cost almost more than the bike)
1978    77 Yamaha YZ400D, loved that bike, but got given the RM400 so sold the YZ and bought speedway & LT bikes
1978 Suzuki RM400 ( actually sponsored by Cornell's, never really liked it)
1979 ~81 2v Jawa 500 speedway
1979 ~81 4v Weslake 500 in Jawa LT frame ( blew it up on the Morgan mile, took about a year to save enough to fix it)
1979 ~ lost in late 80's/early 90's? - Honda CR250RZ in Hagon copy LT frame- blue anodised engine plates, would like it back!
1979 ~1980 Suzuki T500 short circuit sidecar
1981 ~ now 79 Honda CR250RZ ( another favourite, ex Taylor Team Honda Terry Wigzell SA#1 bike with Jon Hawkins motor)
(from 1985 had 25 years off bikes, raced speedcars, rallying, Formula Vee, then marriages , mortgages, 4 kids, holiday house etc)
2006 ~ now 79 YZ80f for son to learn on - big mistake!
2010 ~ discovered VMX/CDT, restored my CR125M, bought  2 more, ( for my brother and son, need one more for 2nd son soon!)
2011 ~ now 74 Honda Elsinore CR250M great fun to ride
2012 ~ now 80's Yamaha DT175 farm hack, indestructible
2012 ~ now Yamaha IT250H farm hack, hope to do Vinduro's one day....
( plus various model ATC70's, ATC185, quads etc)
...and the fun continues!!!!!

You'll be a bit disappointed, I've sold off many bikes, two in the last week and another going next week and another one of  two on the go once the buyer makes his mind up which one he wants. I'm starting to like the idea of less bikes and more money in the bank so this might match the great purge of the late 90's when I got rid of about 10 bikes, mainly Maicos. Many of the following are projects but all, or most parts are here ready for when they hit the build area.......Here goes with what's in the shed now (or recently departed).
1971 Steens /Suzuki TS90 motor.
197? Yamaha GT80
1968 Yamaha DT1.....pre 70 racer
1968 Yamaha DT1.....DT1 from Hell.
1968 Yamaha DT1.....restored enduro........(sold to an ADB staffer)
1970 Maico 350....one owner from new
1970 Maico 350
1963 Maico KR250
1964 Maico 360 Metisse
1972 Maico trials special
1974 Yamaha TY250
1969 Cheney Yamaha 360
1966 Hindall Ducati 250
1970 Hindall RT2MX
1970 Hindall DT2MX
1971 Boyd and Stellings TM400 Suzuki (sold to a Brisbane racer)
197? Cycle Factory framed RT2MX Yamaha flat tracker
197? Fasttrack framed TM250 Suzuki flat tracker
1976 Shell OW72 750 Yamaha flat tracker
1981 Yamaha IT 250
1981 Suzuki PE400Z (sold to Frosty)
1959 BSA C15/Triumph T100A  TriBSA PRE 60 project.
1965 Triumph 650 TR6R pre 65 project
1974 Trackmaster framed Yamaha 650 street tracker project
1970 Kawasaki Z1R drag bike roller.......motor sold 15 years ago but always looking for another one to go racing again.

Let me think for a while and I'll try and list the VMX bikes that I've owned and passed on. I don't want to think about the bikes I've had since 1969 though.

I can't remember the years that I owned them, I got my first bike when I was 9 in 1980, so from '80 - current in order were:

'74 Yamaha GT80
'81 Honda XR80
'85 Kawasaki KX80E3
'84 Honda XR200RE

Then got my car licence and wasted heaps of money on cars.

Then got sick of spending money on cars and the bikes made a come-back

'93 Honda CR250
'84 Honda CR125RE

Then got my bike licence and swapped the CR250 for a road bike, and from them had roadies and traillies at the same time.

'89 Yamaha TT250
'89 Yamaha DT200R
'94 Yamaha TTR250
'02 Yamaha WR250F

Then had kids so the road bikes went.

Then got a company car, so the roadies came back.

Then got the VMX bug.

'81 Yamaha IT465H
'81 Suzuki RM465X
'79 Yamaha GTMX80 - project
'82 Yamaha YZ50J - project
'82 Yamaha YZ60J - project
'93 Yamaha WR500ZE - still have
'84 Yamaha YZ80L - still have
'85 Kawasaki KX250D1
'84 Kawasaki KDX200B1 - still have
'92 Yamaha WR200ZD - still have

And in between there has been 6 roadies.

There could be more but it's hard to remember :-[

It all started back in 1977 with the first 5 speed XR75 sold in NSW, purchased at Coogee Honda.
It got stolen in 1978 and when I got it back, it was cactus, no back wheel and seized motor. Back to the pushie again.... a Yamaha monoshock with YZ80 mud guards!
1980.....CR80RA (new)
1981....CR125RA (2nd hand) It got pinched in 1983, never to be seen again.
1985....CR250RF (new)
1985.....XR500RE (2nd hand)
1987 sold the bikes and started wasting money on cars, girl friends, parties, surfing....good times but no dirt bikes.
Got back into bikes in the late 90's with a 2nd hand 1993 XR600
1998.... HRC XR630 (new)
2001.... XR650 (new)
Then the race bug bit again, this time mainly Enduro
2002.....CRF450 (new) Horrible bike
2003 FE501 Husaberg (new)
2004 WR450F (new) another lemon
2005 KTM300EXC (2nd hand)
2006 GasGas 450FSE (new)
and then I went to my first VMX meeting and I fell for the bikes, the sounds and the relaxed atmosphere. Started off restoring an IT490 Yamaha for a hobby, and the resto's haven't stopped since. Many restored bikes went to new homes. Too many to list here.
Started VMX racing....
1974 CR250M (Profab special with GEM reed valves) Now lives in WA. Nice bike but I really am a Fourstroke man.
1972 BSA B50
1974 CR/MT250 Hybrid (for no other reason than I had all the parts and a clapped out MT!
1979 XR500
At one stage I did have all the 1984 CR Honda's, including the CR60....all gone now
1980 CR/XR80 Hybrid (for no other reason than I had all the parts)
1974 XR75
1980 CR80RA
1979 CR250RZ RC replica
Then built an XL420 pre78 special (built to look like the bike Marty Moates raced for a short time in 1976) but with better suspension.
And just about finished my BSA B44 project.
Then there are the projects waiting.....should keep me entertained for a while  ;D

Agree 100% with that Husky! and the orange tanked Boss was a good looker too. ;) Went from the Boss to a G5  100cc Kawasaki traily that I had a you beaut EDC custom made chamber for. Well I did grow up in Eltham  (EDC -  Eltham Dirt Cycles  aka Ian and Rob? Gear. look them up in the original Trail and Track magazines. :D

Yamaha GT80 (with welded on kick starter and gear stick  :o every time I came off I broke the weld on the gear stick and always happened in a high gear so had to ride the clutch all the way home :P had panty hose on the rear of the carb for a filter ??? ( cost me $60 bucks back in 1982 for the little rocket )

PE 250 twin shock (great bike)

Honda 200 ATC trike with pull start and balloon tires  8) blew the front tire on it so put a AG 100 front end on it REAL HEAD TURNER but barstard to steer on gravel roads  , the frame broke doing donuts on the beach, the bloke dad got it from for me , was a beach fishing dude so lots of (RUST) in the frame , then I put the ATC trike engine in a AG 100 frame Wow pull start two wheeler.

ER 125 Suzuki great little bike.

XL 250 1983 cool bike had speedo and lights, could of done rego on it but no need up NORTH IN NZ ZERO COPS:o 8)

What didn't you like about the 125 H?

I was wondering the same thing about the 87 KX 125?

Started life with a Honda CB72, it came in several boxes which now seems to be my current theme :o
Yamaha MX 125A great little bike that I really liked at the time, wonder if I would now
DT400 D new - fat slow pig
KX 250 75/76
KX 250 A4 - liked both KX's but only really trail rode them
KLX 250 81 new - loved this bike but grew tired of rebuilding it.
KX 420 80 - loved it as a trail bike
CR 250 82 - felt it was average
CR 125 83 - fun little bike
YZ 250 85 -  nice enough bike but I never felt at home on it
KDX 200 86 new -  great bike, I know own 2 of them (in boxes)
KX 125 87 new - Great bike, the KX and I became 'one' (now have an 88 in a box)
TT350 88 new - Nice enough as an ordinary trail bike but a lousy enduro bike
Montesa Cota 304 -  bike of the devil, I couldn't keep it running!
DR600 - Great bike for open dirt roads
GPX 600 roady - My first and only road bike (the CB72 doesn't count) very smooth compared to the DR
Fantic trials new - (242 or 243?) Always enjoyed it.
KX 250 89 - My serious days were over and this was my toy for club MX, dirt track and pony express events
Kept the Fantic and KX for several years until the marriage, mortgage kids disease struck

What didn't you like about the 125 H?

All my mates went RM125X, but my brother had a deal on YZ80s, so went 125H. Didn't handle, wasn't fast, generally bad experience. Even worse tried a mate's RM and made my YZ seem even worse. The next year little bro was on Hondas, which wasn't a lot better for me.

I just got off an '86 CR125! The KX was ok without being great. Should've stuck with the Hondas. The 87 CR125 was great and I did a couple of races on my brother's which had a bigger carb from DG and PC pipe and muffler - made my KX feel very slow.

Got married.....

got divorced..

Sorry mate, I don't know whether that bit was supposed to make me laugh, but I did, for a moment, some reason I thought it as hilarious :D ;D

Nothing wrong with those Ts185's either. So much fun for buck. I am addicted too, last forever. If you get a Sweet & sour pit bike instead, nothin but two weeks of misery, and thats if you get a good one ::)

I bought this when it was a couple of years old
(http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv132/mc125mick/3595705e-1bde-4a36-b1d5-97a798588ef8_zps229ad9a7.jpg~original)
Had it for a few years, I loved it so much that when I had to sell it to pay for a dog divorce Lawyer, I sold it to a brother, dearly hoping it would come back one day. Freaking long time, but it just has, after a massive amount of years. I have to go and pick it up from near Grafton, NSW.
He said the plastics are shit, but he has just spent $800 on a rear shock and rear end bearing service/rebuild and fork service at that bloke in Coff's with the good rep, the one that knows his stuff.
Funny on the North coast of Nsw, they love the early 200katos, and they fondly call these a poor mans Kato, you can stop laughing now >:(  ok, stop ::)

Anyhow she was one of my most favorite little darlings once.
It was a period when I was working my arse off, but when that alarm clock screamed, I used to think, crap, not again >:( Then I would remember this little babe was waiting to get me to work, play and explore. Middle of winter, middle of summer, I didn't give a shit, I loved the little darlin. Never broke down, never let me down. Always waiting for me with a smile, sweet little thing.

Nice  capable ride those PE's. use to borrow one of those from a mate in Taree. Lucky to score your old bike back. I only know where one of mine is and that's the GT750 and he isn't selling.

if you manage to find time and if your on the way to Gloucester take a spin in the Kiwarrak state forest between Taree and Nabiac, brilliant bit of riding country. Specially the southern boundary trail.

Yep, not only dirt bikes.
Had from the 70's:
    Honda 500/4
    2 x Norton 850 Mk 3
    Honda 750/4
    Kawasaki 900
    2 x Norton 750
    71 Harley FL
And then broke it up with,
    67 Sporty
    88 Softail Custom
Even today still have a 72 Norton 750.
Finally modernized myself with a 2011 Softail Standard (103ci).
