Title: Differences between '79 and '80 250 mx
Post by: evo550 on January 28, 2014, 10:37:30 pm
Looking at a project on the interweb, it is listed as a '79 250 mx, but I'm thinking it could be an '80 model.
It's missing all original plastics except for the tank which has the embedded KTM logo (not a sticker), alloy swingarm, and round black plastic ignition cover....
What do ya reckon ?

  Ok  its a 1980 model .. and it a MX    Motor Cross Model

   Engine Number will start 9-540****     or 0-540
   you will find it on the R/H side of engine just under the Cylinder near the front engine bolt

    9 = 1979
    0 = 1980
    540 = 250 cc   or  550 = 400cc   or 510 =125cc     or  520 =175cc
    *** = just a number

   the Fram number will start 9*550 03555   or 0*550 03555   and will find it on the Head stem

   9 = 1979
   0 = 1980
   550 = fram production code / and year made
   03555 = fram number  thay do have other  meaning but you dont need to know

Just wondering how you I would go getting motor parts for a bike like this bearings etc.
Also is there many common problems with the 1980 model?
Have started looking for my first older bike don't have much knowledge of them.

Cheers Rob
