Title: Conondale Vinduro Sprint 29,30/03/14
Post by: NSR on January 23, 2014, 11:06:02 pm
It's on again.  We are really struggling for a date for this, so we have brought it forward to get it away from the bigger VMX meets.

The Sunshine Coast MCC will be running an interclub TBC Competition Classic Enduro known as the “Metalink Conondale Vinduro Sprint” on the 29,30th of March 2014.

The format will be the same as last year:  1 heat will be each rider doing a timed lap of a 10-15min AORC type track.  Depending on the number of entries there should be 6 – 8 heats in the day.  The rider with the lowest elapsed time in each class will be classed as the winner.

It will be Pre90 but the classes will be different to VMX to reflect what was going on with enduro bikes at the time.  Some of the classes will change, Hell might even allow  Pre95 Enduro bikes ???

More to come

Cheers
Noel

Great stuff NSR!

So does moving the date allow some of the MX track to be included?

PS. Pre-95 : You Queenslanders a way to forward thinking and easy going!

We are looking at making the track a bit longer this year.  We're more leaning towards using trails not the MX track.  It always seems to me the MX track sections of a Xcountry are the boring bits and I am always wanting to get into the trails.  But if we think it will get us more riders we will look at it.

I have been thinking about the Pre 95 thing for a while.  There were still interesting enduro bikes in the early 90s and some major enduro events were happening.  The real change in enduros had not happened until the late 90s, where it went from enduro racing to Xcountry.
The other reason is I don't see a line up of riders on perceived fragile MX bikes wanting to do more than 3 short lap races and we need to get a decent roll up to this one.

Cheers
Noel

It was a fantastic event last year, the track was great to ride, the sprint format is easy on old bodies and the vinduro on the Saturday put the icing on the cake!

I'm looking forward to it.

Rick and I were sorting out the track today.  It is in great condition and will just need a bit of cleaning up.  As we did last year we will be making sure the track will be good for all types of bikes and riders.

OK.  Just had conformation BMCC, QVMX & TMCC have officially joined the event.  So long as you are a member of one of these clubs or SCMCC your right to go.

Although I think the classes were good I have culled them a bit for this year.

This is the bike that won last year. This is what they said about the Weekend: "Excellent event. It was one of the best events i went to all year. Thanks"
It would be great if Andrew made the trip from Cairns again.  He was quick.

http://www.scmcc.info/#!home/mainPage (http://www.scmcc.info/#!home/mainPage)

There much the same as last year.
The classes have been cut a bit they're now:
CLASSES OF COMPETITION:
A. Pre 76
C. Pre 79
F. Evo under 200
G. Evo under 250
H. Evo Open
I. Air cooled under 200
J. Air cooled under 250
K. Air cooled Open
L. Pre 90 under 250
M.Pre 90 Open
We haven't gone to Pre95 for this one, Maybe next year.

This is a totally unique Classic event and not to be missed.  The track will suit all bikes and riders.  Because each lap is scored with the transponders there is no dealing with faster riders coming past you.
Cheers
Noel

I think I will be careful were I put my fingers between now and race day.

Since I wrote this we have had two more finger injures.  I'm being real careful.  Ricky Madden will get the stitchers out of two of his fingers on Wednesday.  He said he may not ride as their his clutch fingers and to do a fast time on a 175 you need to use the clutch a lot.  I did assure him nobody else will care if he can't do a fast time ;).

Don't post any entries from now.  We will take the entry on the day.  The P&C will have the canteen open on Sunday.

Cheers

We should try to get ADB or another magazine to run a article on this event. I think it would help make the event grow and let people know what they are missing out on. Awesome track, run perfectly and a great atmosphere. What more do you want. Thanks

Just getting the track watered. It's gunna be perfect :-\.   I hope there's some more competition for you this year Andrew.  The young feller on the IT200 is out with an injured shoulder :(.
To keep the entry costs down, www.metalink.net.au (http://www.metalink.net.au) are sponsoring the Transponders again, Thanks Kel.  VMX are sending something up for the teams again and CMH the trophies.  Thanks Chris and Ken.

I know what you are saying about coverage.  This year was a bit of a mess with dates and not wanting to clash with other VMX and Enduro events.  I hope to have a mate there to take photos so at least I will have some photos to show people how good it is.

Thanks Jeff ... but I was referring not only to the venerable PE, but also the YZ and CR that I am prepping for the PC Nats :)

As usual, I'm biting off more than I can chew and chewing like hell .. who else starts 2 bike rebuilds 5 weeks from an event?  Certainly not anyone sane that's for sure.

Any updates on how the weather is going to affect this event ? I was planning to drive down from Townsville on Friday morning, but I am seeing weather forecasts on the news, of heavy rainfall and possible flooding in SEQ. I travelled down and rode my Maico GS250 in last year's event and had a great time. But to do it this year, I will have to take 3 days off work and drive a 3000km round trip and don't know if it is worth taking the risk on the weather.

Official word from the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Coordinator is that they expect the rain to ease off over the next couple of days.  Council rainfall data is showing around 5 inches of rain within the last 12 hours in the Conondale area on top of the lighter showers earlier in the week.  It was pretty dry and dusty out there so maybe the rain has soaked in .. but maybe it's also run off and causing some headaches?

Either way, NSR and a few other organisers are making a site visit out there this afternoon and I expect they will make a call once they have checked it out.

Stay tuned.

I just went out and checked my rain gauge .... which I emptied at 5pm this evening because it was over flowing from the last 2 days rain so that's more than 6 inches in the old money.

Currently, it has recorded 3 inches since 5pm  :o

Picking up your factory ride on Sunday Gaylord. I'll bet you are beside yourself with anticipation..........Probably strap it to the undercarriage of truck to avoid embarrassment. Only because it's the lowest bike in the class ;D ;D

Ha What can ya say :(  We were holding out hoping we wouldn't cop it to bad, but cop it we did.  Thanks for all the calls and understanding it just went to show what a great event it would have been.   We are looking for another date so stay tuned.
Cheers

Picking up your factory ride on Sunday Gaylord. I'll bet you are beside yourself with anticipation..........Probably strap it to the undercarriage of truck to avoid embarrassment. Only because it's the lowest bike in the class ;D ;D

As for your roller and box of bits. If I can't sell them on E-tree I'll bring them as well.

I got a PM from new German member Maico-Mac(Marcus) recently, he reckons it rains a bit much on our side ??? ??? ??? :D

Shouldn't be a problem with all this global warming though,
Technically it should turn to steam with all the heat, rise up, gather, drift to the east and dump on NZ 8)

Ok, We have a new date for the Vinduro. It will be on the 12&13th of April  I know this is short notice, but with all the big VMX events on this year and to fit in with other events at Conondale it is the only date that works.
On the Saturday there will be a MX practice day on at the same time but Sunday we will have the park to ourselves.  The format will be the same.

Popeye you can ride Harrisville any day of the week , two days riding at Conondale, beats one day going around in circles.Far better value for ur money.

What a bummer. I was really looking forward to doing the vinduro sprint again this year, after having lots of fun last year, but that date just doesn't work for me. There is also VMX meeting on that day in my local area, so will probably have a ride there and give my bikes a shakedown run for Toowoomba. Ah well, there's always next year.

Can someone please let me know that it is definitely on with a few days to spare. I checked the forum last Friday morning and it was not cancelled, got on the plane with a mate from Cairns and flew to Brisbane. I then had to call Rick myself to find out it was cancelled. Very costly weekend. We would love to come down but we need to know a little earlier if it is not going to happen.Thanks.

Just remember that this forum is not an official site for anything.  Always check with the club regarding an events status. Sometimes the forum gets the news hot off the press but don't rely on it if it's important to you.

The weather forecasters got it right for once, on the initial date for the event. On their forecasts, I decided to bail out at the last minute and go to work instead.  I usually don't have much faith in weathermen as they normally don't seem to get it right too often with NQ cyclones and only seem to be just guessing most of the time.

Hi Andrew, Yeah, sorry about that. In hindsight we should have called it early Friday morning.  But I live an hour away and the first report I got was from an optimist :-[
Then We then stood around not believing our bad luck :-\
Please PM me your mobile number and I will give you mine and you can call before you leave, if there is any concern.

It is a bummer this is the only W/end we can fit in and fully understand why people can't be there :(.

The country will be all the better with the drenching.
Your right there. The track is every bit as good as last year. It is in perfect loam moist condition, did a rearrow and clean up yesterday,  just a bit more work with the tractor clearing away some rocks and some tape in a few spots and it will be all go.  The track is no harder or easer than last year.  Just more fun.

The pits and start/finish for the vinduro will be behind the shower block so follow the arrows around to that part of the pits.  I was thinking we could have the quickshades facing the road and laneway to the start/finish.  Entries will be taken after 10.30 Saturday.

Russ sorry to hear of the injury. Was it a crash or did you just smash the foot on the log without crashing? If the swelling doesn't go down you can always ride in thongs at Conondale. I am sure the organizers wouldn't mind seeing the occasional competitor in a thong  :o

Loaded the Husky up and set out of the vinduro on Saturday morning. Made it just to northern outskirts of Brisbane before car stated pissing water out of of the radiator. :o  Headed back home. Appears to be a cracked plastic water box so will need new radiator. At least it happened fairly close to home and didn't need towing or root the engine. Need it fixed before Post Classic Nats! Seems I just wasn't meant to get to Vinduro Sprint this year  :( Fail  :-\ :'(

How good was that  ;D anyone can ride a dry track, but when it rains the fun begins. There was one section about 1klm from the finish line that was super slippery being a down hill with a sharp RH just before the creek and if you had the wrong line  you were in deep shit  ;)   Never heard one complaint on how wet or slippery it was just plenty of smiles all round .
Not too sure what NSR ( Noel )  was up to,  each lap he either had the from tyre off or adding more air ::) come to think was this some sort of ploy to put me off  :)
Thanks to all that made this event happen. I will be back

I had a fantastic weekend, many thanks to the Sunshine Coast MC for another great event. There seems to be a small core body of workers that are there at each event I've attended and I am very greatful that they give up their time so we (I) can have a good time. Thank you.

The track was superb on Saturday, lots of traction, no dust and some lovely fast sections. It was a little slicker on race day and some sections of the track were removed to allow a good flowing sprint. Great organisation and a nice laid back vibe.....can you get any better?

The only item on my wish list is that more NSW vinduro riders didn't make the trip up  there and support the event. I'm daring to dream here but wouldn't it be fantastic to have the East Coast Series reborn?

That's just it, it's not just a ride it's our only competitive vinduro in Australia (to my knowledge your honour). You do get to 'ride' on Saturday but then you get to race on Sunday :)
