Okay after many years it is time to get Northern Districts MCC into running a Dirt Track series once more.
We are going to try something a little different to what is currently on offer. Our series is going to be fairly and squarely aimed at providing a relaxed "club day" atmosphere catering largely for the "older rider" on "older machinery".
If you take a look at the entry form for round 1 you will see that we will be offering vintage classes separated by machines with drum or disc brakes. As braking ability is a major factor in Dirt Track performance this class structure is aimed at maximising grid sizes in our vintage ranks while attempting to keep performance levels comparative. Obviously parity is never going to occur and is not what we are after.
You will also see some age racing classes. We believe these classes should be the main attraction. Where a rider regardless of age can compete with others of similar ability and common sense ;D
Modern classes will also be catered for however are support classes only and really designed for older guy's who also want to ride newer machinery.
Limited Junior classes are also there and would suit children/grandchildren of competitors.
There are bound to be teething problems and what we propose will not be everyones cup of tea but I hope that we will be able to provide some events that are currently missing from the Dirt Track scene and would be appreciated by our "less serious" racers.
I would welcome your constructive feedback on what we are proposing. If you like what you see then please get your entry in asap. You can download an entry form from http://retromx.com.au/2014_Norths_Dirt_Track_Entry_Form.pdf (http://retromx.com.au/2014_Norths_Dirt_Track_Entry_Form.pdf)

One word,......."Brilliant". What an awesome selection of classes!!!! I'm frothing!! Entries going in today!!!!
Well done to Northern Districts!! Can't wait!
-
Good stuff Shaun,
I will rattle the newy blokes and see how many I can drag down for a ride.
-
While I'm not sure the class separation by brakes is the right way to go, It might just be worth trying and if it gets riders back on the track it might be the kick in the arse classic dirt track needs.
Good on you Shaun and Norths.
-
count me in too shaun ;) ok it`s a club day and your entry fees have a day member at $10.00 how much is full membership?. i am postive there would be blokes out there who would pay full membership to support a club that supports there classes.

I'm in too,Shaun.......and like Micks, how much for yearly membership of Norths ? ;D
-
I have never riden dirt track.
I might come have a go!
Is there anything extra that needs to be done to the bike.
Sorry for the silly question!!
-
Trials tyre on back, maybe a change of gearing.
-
On the membership, are other clubs invited or do we have to join norths?
And I hope you are going to have camping at the track on sat night so we can get up early, go for a run and do our exercises in preparation for the days racing instead of being tired after the long drive to the track early in the morning, ;) ;D

Good stuff Norths! Go for it.
All we need on this forum now is the old 'Nom De Plume' 'North Star" from the old "Motorcycle Clubman" mag!
cheers pancho

I'd like to have a go at this, sadly first round clashes with Canberra's first round, but maybe another round. What's the go with gearing for Nepean on a 250 Evo?

I am in Entree in the mail ,can't wait

Just do what I do Gra, start off in second and rev $h*t out of it!
-
Looks really good. How many are planned for the year?
Brett
-
Brett if this first one is a success Norths will be running 3 dirt track events this year at Nepean.
Along with the 3 rounds from Penrith who are following a similar format plus the annual Charity Vintage Dirt Track in August it appears that 2014 will be a bumper year for CDT in NSW!!! ;D ;D ;D

Full membership of Northern Districts MCC is $45.00. We also run Pre '90 Motocross events throughout the year so if you think you would be likely to also have a ride at any of those then full membership is the go. If you are only doing our 3 Dirt Tracks then at $10.00 each day membership is the go.

Not forgetting St George's usual 3 club days and BWP also having 3 days on the calendar.
Combine all this with the two other member clubs, Willoughby & Manly and there will be anything up to 17 full on racing days available at Nepean in 2014, as said a bumper year ahead for Syd Dirttrackers.
Hope there's enough competitors to go round?
-
Must be nice to have all these meetings to be able to go to .

wont be going to any may june july busy

Yes Steve sorry I was replying specifically about Vintage Focussed meetings.
Of course St George offer some vintage classes as well. And I plan to be riding all of them too ;D
It would be great to see BWP, Manly and Willoughby also run race meetings this year but I understand that this may not be possible. Nonetheless we should keep an eye out for and support anything they decide to run.
BTW the first Nepean Practice Day of the year will be on February 8. This year member clubs are each required to run a practice day and this one is being conducted by Bankstown Wiley Park MCC. Although it does clash with Kings and Queens I'm sure there will no doubt be a strong turn out of riders keen to get into the new season.

Entries are rolling in.
In the interests of keeping this as a relaxed club day we will be limiting class sizes.
I want to stress that if you intend to ride then get your pre entry in as classes will be closed as they fill. I can tell you that Classic 250 is already at half capacity and a couple of others are getting there too.
Payment on the day is fine but you may miss out if you leave it until then to enter.
Entry form is at http://retromx.com.au/2014_Norths_Dirt_Track_Entry_Form.pdf (http://retromx.com.au/2014_Norths_Dirt_Track_Entry_Form.pdf)

that`s good to hear shaun, but limiting class sizes? that could only lead to more track time for my bucks.
-
Hahaha Mick yep that's the plan. Would love to get through 4 rounds in the day and maybe heats and finals for the age races. Being our first attempt it is a little hard to know exactly but if we work on limiting overall rider numbers to 70 or 80 I reckon we'll get close.
Cheers

-
i have sent my entry today talking to another 2 riders who look loike they will ride as well
-
Thanks Jim
Entries are looking good. A couple of classes are nearing capacity and will be closed soon.
Just a tip. If you have a non-disc braked 250 or want to ride in the over 49 year old's and haven't entered yet then you better hurry up ;D
Cheers

Alvin is GO !!.............emailed entry tonight....... 8)

Hi Guys;
Just a couple of questions RE Norths.
I have a disk braked 125 pre 90' and a non disk braked 250 pre 75', what classes are available to run in, also will there be a 50 years plus class?
Also the age old debate question (not requesting a debate though). Will sliders be able to run with mx's?
-
hagon you are goinng to be a busy boy. Print/look at entry form link is at the top of page 1 it may help you if not #19 (shaun) will be able to answer your question better than me but i can tell you that a lot of blokes will ride up a class eg retro lite disc 125 will ride up in retro 250 and classic 250 drum will ride up in classic open. as for the GREAT dedate sliders ride in their class only but have two rides in the program that`s how the city of penrith run but it could be different with norths anyhow should be a good meet and it`s great to see the norths club back at dirt track.
-
Hi just a quick update on our first round.
We have received a great roll up in the classic classes with 3 already at 1 full grid. I haven't cleared the post box for a week so there may be more there too.
At this stage we are not taking any entries on the day as I don't have the manpower to do a full sign on. So a pre entry is the only way to guarrantee a ride at this stage. I have sent an email to the entries I've processed to date so if you think you should of heard from me and haven't please let me know either by PM or at [email protected]
Cheers

Just over one week to go before we kick off the 2014 Dirt Track season at Nepean so I thought I would post a quick update on how the entries are looking.
We have had a great response to the new race class format.
The Classic 250, Classic Open and Classic Masters classes have already received enough entries to run 2 grids in each which means these classes will definitely be run as heats and a final. All of the other classic classes have received enough for a single grid and at this stage will be run over point scored rounds. This may change if we receive a few more entries to make a second grid in some classes. At this stage though we may have to combine some of the Pre '90 classes as numbers are a little low in these. Meanwhile Juniors and Sidecars are in danger of being cancelled due to lack of entries. A decision will be made on these classes next Monday. We will not be running classes with insufficient entries.
Modern classes are looking okay but there is still a bit of room in Pro Lites. These classes will be restricted to the first 12 entries only.
We will be running a sign on and scrutineering on Saturday afternoon to try and lighten the load on Sunday morning. Camping will be available on Saturday night.
Cheers

Where are all the PRE90 blokes? ::)
-
!st event for Norths run and won, a great casual days racing with different winners in most heats which made for a lot of satisfied riders.
While there was a few of the regular holdups, water, ambo, the track was at its best.
Congratulations and thanks to Shaun and the rest of the club committee for an enjoyable days riding.
Purple Dave could not win a trick, the sc loosing some compression, the loaner bike fouling a plug before the start and his goggles going south before he could get to the start in the final round.
Hope you had better luck at Star City Dave. ;D
Only 4 weeks till the first CPMCC round, YEHAA!
-
Top work Shaun, big thanks to your family for helping out too, as well as Roosta and the boys! Shout out to Steve Adamson get well soon champ( ribs are a bitch) looking foward to Penrith on 23rd, hpefully I dont over take my own bike again down the straight :o

What happened? Alvin wasn't go??
Did you get it fixed for the next one?
cheers pancho.

Race 1 Alvin gets the holeshot and is off like a brides nighty, holding off all and sundry but like a couple of us, kept the shitko's on after the bayliss weekend and they failed at the crucial moment, slid a a bit wide in the bends 1st lap. :( :o
He definately lived up to his promise of getting the starts right. 8) ;)

St George first round next weekend.

What an awesome day. Well done to Northern Districts for bringing the classics back to Nepean. Such a relaxed vibe and great bunch of people with close racing! It's great to bring fun back to a meet!!
-
On behalf of Northern Districts MCC thank you to all the people that made our return to race day promotion such a success.
The amount of effort put in by people such as Roy, Aldo and Rob from the Penrith club was simply astounding. These guy's got the track prepared to the best race condition it has been in years and all to assist another club. I can't thank you fellas enough.
The officials who gave up their time to run the meeting. Leon as Steward, Mick as CoC and Tommy as Scrutineer a big thank you too. All of these guy's also put the effort in to help another club.
Our sensational lap score team led by my daughter Elyse and ably assisted by Mel and Carolyn thank you for doing the hardest job of the day. FFS fellas clean your number plates!!! BTW Back numbers would help too!
Also thank you to our flaggies for the day I hope you enjoyed your track side vantage points.
And finally to the riders. Thank you for being there and also for understanding that sometimes despite our best planning things happen that mean we need to adapt and change our plans.
We learned a lot from this experience and you can be sure that our next meeting will be even better for the run ;)
In the mean time Vintage Dirt Track will once again be showcased in a months time at the City of Penrith meeting on March 23. This event is PRE ENTRY ONLY and judging by the fields we ran yesterday there will be some classes that will be full very quickly. I totally agree that the track was the best I've seen it since my return, so everyone needs to be thanked...............Pancho, it looks like I've picked up your baton !!........THE HOLESHOT !!, but I found a false neutral into the top corner........DRAT !! :o.........I still have plenty to work on, but we are making progress every meeting..........Thanks also to Sorelegs11, for offering me his 400 Yammie after the SC 500 expired...........much appreciated Darren.. :)
As for Mia and My trip to Star City, after a slow start I came home strong in the ROULETTE STAKES and to top it off they upgraded our room to a Penthouse, with a great view of the COAT HANGER......Very Nice........ 8)
Hopefully not to much to fix on the SC 500, so Alvin will be GO !!.........AGAIN on 23 March !! ;D
As we left early Shaun, could you post the final results for the day, and once again WELL DONE........ :D
