Kent Howerton had factory rides for Husqvarna & Kawasaki , as well as Suzuki .

I think Howerton had retired from full time racing by then

I'm voting for the Flying Freckle (the american one) too by the way.

My guess is still Goat Breker . He finished third in the 1984 AMA 500 class on a factory Kawasaki . But while we are talking about goats , Holeshot may have to be renamed " Goat Molester Buddy " if he passes the new Montesa owners club initiation process.

Ron Lechien didn't ride kawasaki's until '86
Jeff Ward rode 125's in '84
Kent Howerton rode 250's in '84
Gotta be Goat Breker

Doh! I knew that I had seen that bike before . It is pictured on pages 136 & 137 of Ray Ryan's " Motocross Racers " book. Holeshot's description was inaccurate though because it is actually an '83 SR500, not an '84.

Good point Doc. The mail has to get through rain, hail and snow so it would be no good using a Yamaha.
Title: Re: whose works bike was this
Post by: Doc on June 14, 2008, 08:32:09 pm
no but that is oh so close! Rick reputedly had (correction - rode) another and it was all but the same  ;)

Yup Magoo, Honda's do have that agricultural aura to them ;)

Title: Re: whose works bike was this

My next guess is Doug Dubach .

I think I'd better quit while I'm behind Doc. My guess is Mike Bell.

That's hard to say without numbers on it. Those Protec bikes were ridden by a few stars over the years, Rick Johnson the most notable.
Title: Re: whose works bike was this
Post by: Doc on June 14, 2008, 09:35:03 pm
no, no, no,

that is why I removed the number from the picture Maico31 ..a cunning stunt!  :D I guess I could pay Rick Johnson as his was the same but not the bike in the photo ;)

The riders name has been mentioned in this thread but not in regard to this particular bike.

Sorry Magoo, was jus' kidding!  I dun like those tuning forks either and I proudly own a Honda  ;)

:o I am not cruel! :-\ I just don't tell the whole truths is all so at worst I'm only a liar :P 8)

I will tell you the bikes owner, Greg Bastek.

Ummm I dunno but either his career took off when he got on a proper bike or it nose dived not long after he got on it.Am I close Doc? ;D
