At that price the Queen of Sheba will hand deliver and install it
-
ted queen of Sheeba will probably throw in some womanly pleasure as well.

Call me tight fisted, but I'd want the whole harram for that money

Having restored a couple of those tanks, his price is not that far off the mark.....the correct brush finish on the sides and the front of those tanks is very hard to replicate.....you need a good donor tank with no pitting or heavy marks in it to start with. They are not a nice tank to cut open for panelbeating. I have seen NOS ones go for 2.5K easy, he charges upwards of 1.5K plus to restore one (that's part of Joe's business)...I would not even look at one for under 1K anymore....they are a crap tank and the original welding looks like it was done by a drunk 8 year old. If you where building a concourse bike you need a tank like that.

I think it's worth it all day long
A brand new tank turns a $5k good bike into a
$10k glamour
I have a NFS NOS 125 tank that I would value at $2.5k and it's steel
And much easier to repair than the 250.
-
Thats just crazy prices, bullsh-t, rip off.
-
Once it's FITTED to a bike it can not be called NOS and will be correctly called used
He can keep it at that price, as I'll dent it up first ride out.
-
like we're going to put that tank on a daily rider??, :o,belongs in a museum ;), :P

You would not ride it with that tank on it

I love Hondas I love Elsinores............but that price is madness to the usual collector/restorer!

How come you can't make the images larger?
-
He reckons he's trying to make them larger. I'll almost guarantee he don't do it in 1 day and 14 hours
-
Well he didn't enlarge the pics and he also didn't sell it.
Read into that what you want

Honda parts nearly always go for more than most. A local got his hands on a couple at least ten years ago and sold them for $2500 each. How many NOS tanks for a highly collectable 1974 model bike can there be in existence? There will be a couple of guys doing a nos bike that will pay through the nose for the correct part. A tank or a pipe will always command exorbitant prices. You guys hang on to your threepence for that bargain buy....
-
Brad it's not the price. It is most likely worth that. I would pay it if i could clearly see it . I just read deception all over it. When selling an item give the buyer a clear view of what he's getting, not a fu...kn passport photo of it. Not for that price anyway.
If you reckon it's a bargain why wouldn't you speculate and buy it yourself?
-
The seller is Joe Abbatte. He did the article in VMX mag recently on restoring alloy tanks. He is a true craftsman. I don't think he is shady but if you want one you pay. They don't make them new anymore.

Exactly! Joe is well known in the vintage scene with a good reputation, he didn't get that from being shonky..

I don't think it's a bargain. As I said it is exorbitant.I also didn't look at the photos that close as I'm not that interested in the tank to purchase. To be honest my post referred to comments like this
Thats just crazy prices, bullsh-t, rip off.

brad
you are right when it comes to the show qty bikes it will sell i have seen them go for 2500.00 as well.someone will buy it. the nos builders in the usa are not that thin on the ground as they are here.show qty crs go for way more there than you would get for them here.like the india tanks you would buy on for a racer but not for a show bike.
