Title: Crispy Honda XL500S project
Post by: Christo on January 12, 2014, 03:43:18 am
Bought this with a couple of mates as a bit of a project. Unlike my last project (DR400 basket case) this bike is in one piece and runs.
Immediate plans are to procure all the street legal fear and get it road registered.
Then take the head off and repair, its a little rattley see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdWNcGMXKKo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdWNcGMXKKo)

That looks like my first XL that I repainted with some leftover paint from a GT/HO project back in the early 80's. Love to find out if it is.

The paint on this bike looks fairly new, I bought it from a guy in Bakers Hill WA.

Really like the way these 16 x 3 wheels look on the XL500S. Rear wheel bolts right in with minimal modifications. The front wheel is a very different story, its a little bit too wide for the stock front end. Wider leg spacing would do the trick. Looks like more brain-storming and research till late in the night is required....

About as much as bunch of fools carrying on about EVO rules and regulations that no one in the real world gives a flying fluck about, but at least this has pretty pictures to look at!! Good luck with finishing the XL mate, gonna be a cool street slicker  :)

Cheers, Brendan

so what happened inside? did you look? they were notorious for scrubbing cam surfaces....my guess is something like that. I believe someone does fixits for those issues.
